I got it, but not on the first day. It's a fun game, I haven't played any of the previous releases.

I caved in and bought it yesterday. I haven't done very much though aside from a little exploring and a few missions. I haven't seen many open restaurants or stores (aside from one in a desert), but I hope there is more to do later on.

There is; aside from missions you can rob stores, armored cars, steal vehicle you like and park them in your garage to keep them. I'm getting ready to attempt to steal a jet from the military base and park it in the hanger I bought. I'm having more fun than I thought I would with this game.

Don't know if there's another thread about it, but I've been hooked since November. Finished the story in about a month (my gaming is limited to a few hours on weekends) and have been playing online mode since. It's everything you could want in a GTA game, including modding vehicles for the first time. The hang ups for me though are; free roaming can be a nightmare if someone has a tank, many high end vehicles can be found but not kept (to force you into paying in-game money for one), and although the controls are tighter than ever racing and deathmatches feel a bit wonky at times.
