I'm asking about two things I can't really remember very well and would like to know if anyone knows the name of them or remembers them too.
The first is what I THINK was a Papa Beaver's story time cartoon. It was about some sort of man, I don't know if he was a prince or a wizard or what, but he's at a dinner with an old witch/woman and a young woman/princess and I think he sprinkles something onto their food to turn them into horses. I know they get turned into horses for sure but I'm not 100% on how he did it or why. But I think he did it because they were rude and nasty.
Anyway he goes off for a while and leaves the two horses with a farmer and tells him not to work the horse that's the young girl and to feed her good oats and fresh vegetables. But I think he basically told him 'whatever' with the old horse, only to work her, feed her bad oats or whatever.
Then after some time passes he comes back and sees the farmer working the young horse on a horse mill, and says he told him to only work the old mare, which the farmer replies that that horse died. Then the man/wizard turns her back into a girl. I don't remember anything after that I don't think.
I've searched high and low for this and the fairy tale it could have been based off of and have always come up dry.
The second was from what I remember, a cartoon movie that aired on Nickelodeon in the late 80s/early 90s. Here and there I manage to find a random post on the internet that indicates that other people remember this, but are up the same creek as me with not remembering much.
Between what I remember and what the other posts have said, it was about an adolescent ant who didn't have the third segment of his body. Supposedly a sort of coming of age story, and he would get it when he was fully matured?
I don't remember much of this, I just know for certain it existed.
The first one was the episode of Grimm's Fairy Tale Classics called "The Magic Heart". Papa Beaver's Story Time had an episode with a donkey trying to get the "greener" grass on the other side of a barbed wire fence and ended up finding that his original side was greener from the other side.
The only Nickelodeon Ant short I can recall was called "Antics", but I'm not sure if that's what you're looking for.
