Who in their right mind would want to necrobump an older thread?

Why not? Sometimes I would have liked to continue on with the conversation with the older threads but they are locked. I've bumped 7 year old threads because I thought they were still relevant and interesting.

I agree and then probably any "modern" duplicate threat will get locked automatically. Why not necrobump? This is Retrojunk after all, we should be encouraging coversations and welcoming discussion.

Irony: Website about old and nostalgic things, locks old threads when they're brought back and talked about.

It's pointless to bump a thread where 90% of the people in the original thread (including the OP) are no longer active. It's especially pointless when you reply to someone that no longer visits the site. Its just one of those things that the founding fathers of the internet frond upon.

Agreed with Bassman. Another reason why bumping old threads is stupid is that some of the users opinions might not even be relevant to their opinions today. That's especially true when you bump an old thread that has no relevance to today (Copper20's thread on saggy pants is perhaps one of the biggest examples of that).

So, yeah, people. Stop whining about the fact that you can't bump 7 year old threads. The majority of the users on the site do not want to see a bunch of 7-8 year old threads bumped up to the front page. Yes, I know Retrojunk is a "nostalgia" site, and if you simply want to read some of the older threads, then that's fine too. But, unless you have a perfectly legitimate reason for bumping on old thread (and no, just simply saying you want to "continue the discussion" is not one of them), then bumping old threads is just stupid.

The forums are so dead that it shouldn't even matter if people bump old threads. If the forums were alive and active then maybe I would agree more but after all, this site about nostalgia. It's not like I'm on some video game board where everyone is talking about all the latest stuff and I go back seven years and bump some thread.

I think a guy got banned once for excessively necrobumping old threads.

That's pretty messed up. Hopefully, he got warned first. I've bumped a handful of old threads myself. The forum used to be a lot more active back then. It looks like this forum was just a phase more most.

There has been a few members that I recall being banned for necrobumping... and I'm pretty sure they have gotten warnings before they just continue doing their thing. Necrobumping threads has always been against the forum rules. The same type of rule applies to 95% of the forums you visit on the internet. Just because this is a "nostalgia" site doesn't justify necrobumping being okay.

Necrobumping, when performed responsibly can be a great way to revive a great conversation. I've bumped threads in the past and the next thing you know, a lot of people are resuming the conversation. I mean how many times in real life have you told someone the same story? A lot I bet, and it's not like the person would say, "Hey we talked about that already!"
