Agreed with Bassman. Another reason why bumping old threads is stupid is that some of the users opinions might not even be relevant to their opinions today. That's especially true when you bump an old thread that has no relevance to today (Copper20's thread on saggy pants is perhaps one of the biggest examples of that).
So, yeah, people. Stop whining about the fact that you can't bump 7 year old threads. The majority of the users on the site do not want to see a bunch of 7-8 year old threads bumped up to the front page. Yes, I know Retrojunk is a "nostalgia" site, and if you simply want to read some of the older threads, then that's fine too. But, unless you have a perfectly legitimate reason for bumping on old thread (and no, just simply saying you want to "continue the discussion" is not one of them), then bumping old threads is just stupid.
