I like the Mid 80s because the channel had a feel that was quirky and unique, not unlike what other startup cable channels had in their inaugural years (i.e. MTV, Sci-Fi Channel, Cartoon Network, G4). The 80s saw the birth of green slime, the greatest Nickelodeon ID jingles ("Nick, nick, nick, nick, nuh, nick, nick, nick. Nickelodeon!" , and the channel was much less commercial than it would later become (ruining its uniqueness and charm). Most importantly, it was home of the greatest kid's sketch show of all time, You Can't Do That on Television!
Nick had Belle and Sebastian, You Can't Do That On Television, Nick Rocks, Double Dare, Mysterious Cities of Gold, Mr. Wizard's World, Danger Mouse, Count Duckula, The Third Eye, Black Beauty, Today's Special, and Pinwheel. In the early 80s Nick didn't even have commercials--just a bunch of network bumpers. It was PBS on LSD.
