Thread: Why do people act like as if the 2000s were 2008-present?

The 2000s literally went from 2000-2009, but culturally, it was 2002-2007. Culturally, it was quite short because 2000-2001 still had the big '90s feel, and 2008-2009 was all about the 2010s electropop garbage.

For all of you who think that the 2000s were just techno garbage, think again.

The '80s were all about big hair metal.
The '90s were all about grunge.
The '00s were all about punk.

I would say that even 2002 had somewhat of a '90s feel still. I'd say 2003-07 were the cultural '00s. Either way, 2008 and 2009 definitley do not represent the decade as a whole.

If the '00s was like a big party, 2008 would only represent the time when people are cleaning up the plates and cups and taking down the decorations as people are walking home from the party. While 2009 would represent people showing their friends photographs that were taken at the party.

Well, it's like one of my family members used to always say, it doesn't matter if someone is male or female, black or white, old or young, rich or poor, if you're a human, you're a human. We may have different life experiences, we may participate in different cultures, we may even look very different, but we're still all human living in this world, and in that sense we're are one in the same. Humans in one world.

Too many do feel that way, or at least have felt this way.

All the people that associate 10s names like Justin Bieber and Katy Perry with the 00s in particular. Coldplay would be a better example of 00s music because they were around in the early 00s too, they didn't just squeeze in at the dead end.

If you invite me to a birthday party, and I arrive when the guests are leaving, did I really attend the party or am I just there for the aftermath?

The last years tend to have the final impression on people.

Which sucks because the first half of the 2000s was much better than the second half.

I think most of those that think that are kids that hardly even remember the earlier 2000s.

I also don't know of anyone who does that.

What country are you in? I ask because there seem to be a lot of UK/Aussie/NZ folks on this board, and I think some of those countries don't get access to the pop culture as early as America. And as Briand515 says, age can also have something to do with it.

If you don't like it, put an end to the inaccurate perception of the decade. It would be like saying that nothing before 1988 is the 80s.

For anyone that says the latter half who wants to say "But Obama became president", which decade has Obama been president for longer? He's already been president in 2010, 2011, 2012 and today in 2013.

Bush Jr. is the decade's REAL president.

Electropop really wasn't that big most of 2008, yeah late 2008 it blew up but early-mid '08 was really still dominated by urban.

2008 created many TV shows that began the worst changes such as P&F for example
