Well gang, "Star Trek Into Darkness" starts today and my age is starting to get the best of me. I thought I was a Star Trek fan but I'm not into J.J. Abrams as much as other folks.

Some of the reviews have been rough on this new film, but action fans will find lots to like in this latest ST film.

On a different note, old school ST fans are buzzing over "Starship Farragut", available online as both a live action & animated series. Of course the animated series is done in the style of the Filmation TV show from the 70's. If you like "limited" animation, here's "Power Source" Part One just for you:

Lol, I used to think of myself as a Trek Fan. When I enrolled at ASU, that's when I found out what real Trekkies are like. Help - it's a Cult!

I only want to be entertained. The new Trek Movies are for folks that want action, and lots of it. I guess I'm not into the whole "James Bond in Space" school of sci-fi.

Fans of Star Trek keep trying to ramp things up online. Maybe the Starship Farragut channel will catch on, who knows? For the moment I feel like a ranting old guy. All I want are original ideas. Give me all new stories and let creativity live in the 21st century already!

I don't either. I think I've seen 5 episodes from any of the series.

I really liked Into Darkness! The action set pieces are incredible and every actor bring their A-game. I liked it better than Star Trek 2009, whose plot I couldn't really get into. My only complaint about Into Darkness is that after two hours of pure awesomeness, the ending is too by the numbers.

I've never been a Trekkie, def a Star Wars guy here. I watched most of the original series on Netflix along with some select next gen stuff.

I enjoy Star Trek, but like Echidna64, I'm more of a Star Wars fan.

Having said that, I just saw Into the Darkness this afternoon and I enjoyed it a lot. In my opinion, it's better than the first. There's a 'thing' at the end that is made painfully obvious, however. That was my only trivial complaint.

I am not a huge fan of the series either. I bought and tried to watch episodes of both the original series and TNG on Blu-Ray. The same thing kept happening however: I stopped watching, and the sets are now gathering dust. I just never have time to watch any of the shows.

I only saw two of the movies: The Wrath of Khan and the 2009 version. I guess I prefer Star Wars over Star Tek.

It's funny how people can only be a Star Trek or Star Wars fan, never both. I think these new movies weren't meant for the old fans, but made for and geared to a younger audience.

Science fiction in general to me is just way too strange. I can't really understand it. I can't get into sci-fi like most folks can. The first two Alien films are still good, though.

I saw J.J. Abrams first take on old Star Trek in a theater but it really got to me when I watched it on dvd with friends. From what people are saying I might use ear plugs if I see Into Darkness on the big screen otherwise I'll wait for the dvd release.

I think I'm turning into a dvd junkie.

I'm glad that the old Filmation cartoon series from the 70's made it online, but the stiff limited-animation just annoys me. I'm more interested in original stuff. Too much sci-fi has roots that run from the last century, imho.

Well done Drahken, that's the most fun I've had with ST in awhile, lol.

I still think its tough to outdo the original.

Ya gotta love the old series from the 60's. Season 3 started with NBC moving the show from Thursday nights at 9pm to Friday night at 10pm. Friday nights after 9pm used to be known as "the graveyard", where networks would place shows they want to die from lack of viewers.

Show some love for "Spock's Brain", still fun after all of these years.

If you watch this clip, notice how the guest star of this episode, Marj Dusay, transports aboard the Enterprise - the dress appears first, then she materializes inside it. Of course there's not much to her dress if you look closely! The best part of being a kid in 1968 was the way women wore mini-skirts that were truly mini.

Special shout out to Nurse Chapel, can your uniform be any skimpier? Love those long legs Christine. But, my boy Scotty only has eyes for that ion-powered Sigma Draconian spaceship. Note the way that alien ship forms a beautiful "compass point" image when magnified on the Enterprise viewscreen, nicely done.

Please don't laugh at Marj Dusay, she was a 60's television regular guest star. As "Kara", she retells for ST fans how she had to move carefully in her "alien" dress so as not to have a wardrobe malfunction. From Bonanza to McMillan & Wife, Marj Dusay was very familiar back in the day. Her Star Trek appearance as "Kara" has earned her a favorite spot at Star Trek conventions across the country.

"That Kara, she sure knows how to make an entrance!"

The Eldorado is dead. Long live the Eldorado.

Aside some science involved in the show, I think Star Trekk is crap. And I'm one who roots for Thunderbirds Are Go!

Over the years the whole Star Trek franchise has been run into the ground, "Enterprise" was the last straw for Trek fans as far as television goes.

Personally I was ready to move on at the turn of the century.
