That was back when you'd have to really search for the post you were following. Now you have no issue finding it lol Didnt that pixie guy fake his own death at one point? It started to decline about a year or two before the update. A lot of the activity was from the Legion of Bastards group which consisted on mostly 70s and 80s kids. When they started leaving or got banned it become more of a 90s and 00s site full of aspie kids. Furthermore it became easier to find videos on youtube than trying to search here. The update was the sort of the final nail in the coffin. Why stay on a poorly coded site when you have Youtube, Facebook and others to occupy you time?

eddstarr88 1 year 6 months ago Posts: 6883	I completely agree with agentkev and bassman21, I noticed a definite down-shift on the overall site by mid-2010. 2009 stands out as an amazing high-point in the number and variety of posts in both the Official Forums and the User Forums on Retro Junk. And just like desktop and laptop pc sales, activity on lots of websites has changed with the explosion of content on YouTube. I can now find images and video for shows now that had no references at all back in 2007. Many sites that were like an archive of old stuff have been supplanted by bloggers and media insiders that have opened their own portals, like my friend Jerry Beck over at Cartoon Research. And now the web is moving to new access as the Digital Public Library of America (DPLA) joins forces with the Library of Congress and the Internet Archive to pressure all holders of movie and television content from the 20th century to open their warehouses/archives and make everything available for digitizing for universal access! The video future I've always wanted may become a reality by 2015 or sooner.

I know the decline of RJ started in 2010, Debris pretty much called it as it was happening. You could even tell on the RJ Chatango page because that's when the activity declined there too. Don't forget the email system was broken from October 2011 until the site update in April 2012; people couldn't send private messages and new members couldn't join because they never got activation emails.

bassman21 1 year 6 months ago Posts: 4553	I think another issue is people from the previous generations have gotten their nostalgia fix and have moved on. For most of us the commercials we grew up with were just a distant memory thought to be gone for good. I know when I started to discover the vast amount of commercials from the 70s and 80s online I didn't know what to do with myself. Now that I have watched them many times I don't really care much about them. I have even found the commercials I had been searching for since I joined here back in 2006. Its really amazing how many retro commercials there are now on youtube. It would still be nice to talk to more people from my generation on here, but most just don't seem to care to talk about the past anymore. I guess they're too busy with work, kids, their nagging wife and everything else that comes with getting old.

blueluigi22 1 year 6 months ago Posts: 140	Some of those aspie kids that I've seen on Retrojunk throughout 2010 and 2011 was one of my reasons for closing my previous account. While there were some that was worth making fun of in the War Room and the Forum of Mockery, most of their posts, to me, just felt mind-numbingly dumb to the point that it wasn't worth staying. Though the part that really made me close my account for good was when DebrisStorm got banned and DMoney89 closed his account. I know I said this before on a previous thread, and I'll say it again here that I did kind of regret closing my account in August of 2011... but only because I would have liked to have seen the last of Retrojunk's old design. After that, then I would have been glad to have closed my account once Retrojunk's new design took place.

After a decade or more Retro Junk users were sure to transition just like the web itself. My interest in RJ was to chat with anyone who remembered 70's and 80's stuff. As time passed the age profile of RJ users kept getting younger. It freaks me out to chat with someone who doesn't know who Bill Clinton is. Just like IRL, folks my age don't seem to enjoy remembering cool stuff from decades past. Retro Junk was a lifesaver for me. All the crazy memories in my head had an outlet here in the forums. I'm just sorry more people involved in the entertainment industry don't appear to have much interest in posting on chat sites. Would be cool to raz some aging star on vacation from the Hollywood Squares, lol. Is Hollywood Squares still on the air?

I couldn't imagine why anyone would have an issue with Eddstarr88. DMoney89 and I had totally opposite political views and could never agree on anything. Overall I didn't have any issues with him personally though. Debris Storm is on my Facebook and I still talk to him from time to time. I only had it out with him once in the War Room. Probably my biggest rivalry on here was with Pirateninja6 and Mezase Master several years back. They both teamed up against me and started spamming my post. They pushed my buttons in a way few have done online. I got fed up and dug up a lot of personal information on them. I came close to contacting their parents and letting them know what their kids were doing online. It all started over me making a joke about PN6. MM just joined in because they were friends. Ironically they both made jokes about others here all the time, but when it was them it was a different story. We ended up calling a truce and everything was OK after that. They both have matured since then. PN6 ended up getting banned and came back under another username for awhile. MM posted here a few months ago, he's probably too busy with college and also got sick of the site issues.
