This lead to an anti cultural movement also known as a counterculture. With this the Alternative culture namely the grunge subculture was born. You can't blame Nirvana for this.

What I find funny is that younger people look at some 80s movies and when they see people acting in a certain way they don't believe that's how people went by. Case in point,the other day my 12-year old son and I were watching Viceversa and at the beggining of the movie you see the dad (played by Judge Rheinhold) acting all stuck up and snobbish. I had a hard time explaining to him that that's how people -well,Yuppies- were back then. That's when you truly feel the effect of a generational gap,when the patterns of behavior of another generation become rightdown alien.

However the 80's needed a shake up because how horrible hair metal was, and Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, etc. brought real rock back to the masses.
