If Nirvana was responsible for killing the 80s, so was Britney Spears as she was responsible for killing the 90s in 1998/99.

It's possible but I think it was more of a collective cultural movement that did in the 90's

People became very selfish and stuck up in the 80s. The mainstream 'shop till you drop', show off how rich you are, yuppie mentality wasn't for everyone. This lead to an anti cultural movement also known as a counterculture. With this the Alternative culture namely the grunge subculture was born. You can't blame Nirvana for this.

And the 90s were any better with the oh I feel so alienated nobody understands me I think I'll go OD attitude that was prevalent back then along with the don't give a fuck live now pay later attitude.

Nah,man, The 80s was dead by the end of 1988. What I find funny is that younger people look at some 80s movies and when they see people acting in a certain way they don't believe that's how people went by. Case in point, the other day my 12-year old son and I were watching Viceversa and at the beggining of the movie you see the dad (played by Judge Rheinhold) acting all stuck up and snobbish. I had a hard time explaining to him that that's how people -well,Yuppies- were back then. That's when you truly feel the effect of a generational gap, when the patterns of behavior of another generation become rightdown alien.

Yeah that's a fair thing to say in fact I've never thought about it like that before

Every decade needs a shake-up. After grunge, there was nu-metal and a few years later, garage rock, etc. It is interesting how quickly the cycles are going by lately.

Kill what?... music?.. if anything was Heavymetal and it was already dead around early eighties just barely making it to the early 90's. Nirvana was a change of style. Sure it was quite dreadful but didn't kill anything.

So if not for Nirvana it would still be 1980s right now...? Or only until Britney Spears in 1998/99.

The 80s could be like Bart Simpson, still 10 years old 20 years later. But Nirvana shot him in the head and killed him. Then he shot himself in the face and killed himself too.

What killed the 80's was the new generation of 90's kids flexing their muscles and telling all the older guys to get the hell outta the way - finally!

Nirvana did not "kill," the 80's. 80's fashion just faded away by the point Nevermind was released. However the 80's needed a shake up because how horrible hair metal was, and Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, etc. brought real rock back to the masses.

I thought heroin killed the 80's? You know, everyone was all coked out and having a good time, partying in the 80's until heroin burst onto the scene in the 90's and then everyone became all suicidal and depressed and everyone was overdosing... wtf?

It was Actually Ronald Reagan who killed the 80s when He Was Elected for all Time in 1984.

No way Reagan made the 80s what it was just like Clinton made the 90s what it was.

ROFL! Yeah this type of discussion is not my cup of tea, and it plays right into the hands of goons like OJ90s and his ilk.
