Underrated and excellent comic based crime comedy and one of my fave comic based movies.

I saw this movie in theaters when i was 8 4 times and i loved it, i had t-shirt, poster, movie magazine, cards, 2 toys and all that plus watched reruns of the 60's toon on Nick.

This movie had a nice all star cast like Al Pacino who was hilarious as Big Boy Caprice, Dustin Hoffman was great as Mumbles as he did a Rainman-esque role, Mandy Patkin was terrific as 88Keys, Paul Sorvino is fine as Lips as he also was in Rocketeer the next year. And all that, plus i gotta say Madonna never looked hotter than in this movie as Breathless Mahoney and when she came out in that scene in that see-through dress with her tits nearly shown, holy shit! i became a man. lol.

This was the Sin City of the 90s

Ya know Pinface, when I think about all the classic Sunday newspaper comic strips, Dick Tracy seems like a natural choice for other venues like movies and television.

But Dick Tracy has had an uneven response from the public, as live action or as animation. I was unfair to the 1990 movie because I'm not a Warren Beatty fan. Maybe if someone else had been cast in the role of Tracy, the overall response to the film might have been stronger.

I thought it was OK. A little dated (1990) by today's standards though.

Agreed. Warren Beatty reminds me a great deal of Kevin Costner or Robert Redford, in that they seem to always play the same character with different problems.

I was 9 when the movie came out. Didn't really leave much of an impression but I do remember wanting a Dick Tracy Watch.

Saw it in theaters too. Although I had the toys and shirts and all that, I remember being not thrilled with the movie. Maybe it holds up okay? I haven't seen it since it was fresh on VHS.

It probably fits in nicely if you marathon'd it with The Rocketeer, The Shadow and The Phantom.

Don't forget Captain America The First Avenge which fits in nicely as well.

I don't necessarily agree. It's set in the same era, but it's a newer movie. If the 1990 Cap movie was worth watching at all, I might put it in there...but it's just terrible.

                    No. Dick Tracy is good.

Well the similarities between this and Sin City are uncanny! i mean they have film noir crime elements and both are based on comics plus the same style, coloring, make-up effects and all that.

Only Sin City is an adult film

Yea, Sin City is very much Frank Miller's version of film noir. He said it's just a mix of everything he thought was cool, like cars, naked women and guys with trench coats.

Just watched Batman (1989) yesterday, and was thinking of watching Dick Tracy, since I was thinking about way back when, since both were big blockbuster hits for comic book movies.
