Do you ever have to deal with telemarketers? They are the evil of the telephones!

I remember back in the mid 1990's I had to change my phone number because I was being inundated with telemarketers. I've always screened my calls using both my answering machine and caller ID and everytime a telemarketer calls, it would almost always say "Out Of Area" or "Unknown Number" on the caller ID and they always hung up when the answering machine picked up. The thing that makes telemarketers more annoying is the fact they always seem to call during the late afternoon/early evening hours, often when you are having dinner. Yes, I hate telemarketers with a passion. That is one of several reasons I don't have a landline phone anymore, as you don't get telemarketers calling you on your cell phone.

Shortly after my birthday I received the strangest phone call of my life.

A call center rep from GSK,(GlaxoSmithKline - the consumer healthcare company headquartered in London), confirmed my birth date and age over the phone. The rep then asked me why I wasn't in the hospital needing thousands of dollars in medical treatments.

When I told the rep that I don't need a hospital because I'm in good health, she thanked me for my time and ended the call. Very strange.

telemarketers are easy to deal with; just pretend you don't speak english, or better yet just hang up on them.

This one friend of mine used to have one of those (very loud) aerosol air horns that he would blast into the phone whenever he got a telemarketer, bill collector or prank call...and he claims that works quite well!

I've tried hanging up on them, but they just don't give up.

As a salesman I would NEVER do any type of telemarketing or bill collecting job.

If you don't like telemarketing there is a website you can go on to get added to the 'Do Not Call' list. You will still get some, but they will be greatly reduces.

                  https://www.donotcall.gov/default.aspx

The best way to deal with them is to just tell them you are not interested and to please remove you from their list. If they are persistent ask to speak to their supervisor. In most cases they will hang up. Most telemarketing companies fear getting fined and have zero tolerance for employee's that violate telemarketing laws.

They always call looking for charity donations that nobody in my house was involved with. Sometimes I just scream random things into the phone or play music.
