    		 I remember there was a time when you went to fast food restaurants such as McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's, etc. and ordered your food to go...whether it be at the counter or drive-thru, they would automatically throw several packets of ketchup and salt/pepper in the bag with your order. Now, they don't do that anymore...you always have to ask for the ketchup or other condiments. I remember getting annoyed on a couple of occasions when I ordered a burger at one of those places when I was still used to getting packets of ketchup in the bag with my food...but there was none when I took my food out of the bag when I got home..."THEY FORGOT TO PUT KETCHUP IN MY BAG!!!". Does anyone here know why fast food restaurants no longer automatically put ketchup in your bag when you order burgers, fries, etc.???

      		 I'm sure it's to save cost and waste. How many millions of ketchup packets went to the landfill unopened?

        		 I just hate ordering at fast food places in general. I prefer ordering my FACE TO FACE... not through an extremely low quality speaker. Our McDonalds used to have a person waiting for your order at the first window. Now it's boarded up and you have to use the speaker. I hate it.

          		 The condiment thing is ridiculous, everybody I know stashes the extra packets in the fridge or whatever. Drive thru employees act like it comes out of their paycheck or something.

          What annoys me (and anyone working in the service industry may be able to give more detail) is when I pull up, I get immediately pushed into ordering whatever special they're offering by someone who isn't actually taking my order. Instead I have to make an awkward conversation start and usually repeating my entire order because someone wasn't ready to hear it.

            		 Yea that's a prerecorded message. They installed it at the Taco Bell I worked at around 1998. It had something like 5 greetings we could prerecord. It was a way for them to work us harder so the customer would start to say their order right away. I used to record one that said please hold. lol

            I've noticed the same thing about the condiments and it pisses me off too. I don't expect them to put them in the bag automatically, but they could at least ask if we want any. I know it annoyed me when customers used to asked for sauce after I handed them the food. In fact we started to asked them at the speaker to save time at the window.

            It really comes down to cost. They don't make any money off the condiments and are being told not to ask or add any. I know when I worked at Taco Bell a case of sauce was around $50. BTW we found that stacking them neatly in the dining room people would take less. If condiments are being wasted it can add several hundred to their monthly food cost. I heard that the nugget sauce at McDonald's is really expensive. This is why they charge extra 1 per 6 or so nuggets.

            I always stock up on them and Whataburger ketchup (best there is) for when they leave me dry.

              		 As i have found since living here a few cute diners that have everything at the tables it is so quaint as i prefer eating at these places.

                I never thought about sauces not making any profits, being free. I just assumed the up-charge of pop and fries made up for it.

                  		 That might be good enough for somebody who's not bloodthirsty for profit. That does not match the description of a major fast food chain.

                  But everything costs, it all adds up. Especially if they give it out free.

                    		 I know that at McDonald's sometimes they will ask if we want ketchup but for sure never just toss it in. Heck half the time they forget the sauce for the nuggets lol.

                    When the McDonalds in my highschool's town first opened up in like 94 it was a face to face ordering system. It was advertised as being a special thing and something that would be more personable and effective. I don't know if it wasn't working out or what but after a year they went to the speaker system like most places.

                      		 Depends on what time of day you go, High School kids will always eff up your order. People working in the afternoon who do it for a career (dont laugh, they might spit in your food) will usually get it right.

                          Those bastards! I like their ultra-cheap style lol. I totally agree about the lack of napkins though.

                          Funny thing is, now some places charge You like 35 cents for condiments. the burger king by my house does anyways. I just use my own condiments at home.

                            		 That reminds me, Vitamin Shoppe now charges for bags. I literally spent 100 dollars there last month, and when they were done ringing me up, I had a mound of products and asked for a bag and the manager was like, "Normally we charge 10 cents, but I'll let it slide." I was like eff you! I just spent a c-note and you have the nerve to want 10 cents for a bag?!

                            There was a lady next to me fumbling with her purchases trying to carry all her stuff out with the employee just looking dumbly.
