I was in one one when I was 4 years old. It was back in 1980 in our new 1980 Plymouth Champ. The Champ was an import manufactured by Mitsubishi for Dodge who sucked at making fuel efficient cars at the time.

My dad worked security for what is now KBR. He worked four 12 hour shifts and was off Saturdays, Sundays and Wednesdays. He got paid on Wednesdays so every Wednesdays we would drive to his job in the afternoon to get his check so we could deposit it in the bank.

It was just another Wednesday and I was in the back seat play with my toy cars. Suddenly I felt a hard jolt and saw my dad shifting gears. The next thing I knew the ride got very bumpy and we came to a stop on the center shoulder of the freeway. A blue Chevy pickup truck pulled over in front of us. My mom was crying hysterically and I had no idea what happened. A black couple in their 40s came over to the car. My dad got out to greet the man and the woman came over to my mom who was still crying. The woman comforted her and at one point told my mom. "stop crying honey, look at your son...he's smiling....everything is OK". I look over at my moms door and saw it caved in. It was clear that we were in an accident. It wasn't the couple that stopped to render aid, but a work truck that veered into our lane. He actually hit us twice and took off. Luckily the couple got his companies name and the license plate number. My moms knee was hurt from the impact and the pain coupled with the fact that our car which was only a year old was totaled had her crying.

I don't remember much after that on the freeway, but I remember us going outside to survey the damage at one point. The whole passenger side was caved in. I remember the tow truck pulling the car into a service garage as we watched with sad eyes. We had just gotten the car inspected the day before the accident too.

I then remember us waiting in a waiting room at I believe the Dodge/Plymouth dealer. I remember my dad telling me that the cleaning lady was going to get mad at me for something I was doing.....possibly messing with her vacuum. We got a rent car and went to the emergency room to get my moms knee looked at. I remember the doctor asking if they needed to check me out and my dad said I was fine. Next they checked my dad out and were concerned with is blood pressure readings. They ran some more test and determined that he had a mild heart attack. My dad said he was fine and we left. He ignored the doctors warning and ended up having a massive heart attack 5 years later. Anyway we went home and by then it was dark. My brother soon walked up from the neighbors house since he had no way to get inside after school.

We drove a rent car for what seemed like a couple of months and got another kiddy car...a 1981 Chevy Chevette. My parents sued the company of the driver that hit us and got a small settlement.

I remember a few. One I must have been 3-5 years old. My dad got rear ended and he told the cops that he thinks the people behind him rear ended him so he would hit the car in front, some insurance scheme at the time.

I remember one with my older brother driving. I was probably 7-8 years old, he had just picked me up from school and we were headed home. He was a pretty reckless driver at the time as he was in his early 20s. What I remember is that he supposedly tried to avoid getting into a hole on the street and started going sideways with the car very fast and forcefully. I ended up with a slight injury on my neck and really scared of getting into a car with him for at least 2 years afterwards.

Back in September 1973 around my 9th birthday, my mom and I were heading home from my grandmother's house one rainy Friday afternoon on I-95...I was in the backseat playing with my new Action Jackson action figure when all of a sudden my mom had to make a quick maneuver and then a sudden stop. Just as I asked her if we almost had an accident, a car rear-ended us, sending my Action Jackson figure onto the floor in the backseat and my mom saying "Yeah...we're in an accident". Although neither of us were injured, I remember crying after our car (which was a Cadillac) got hit. If I remember correctly, it was a chain reaction accident because the car that hit us was also hit from behind (and received a lot more damage than our car).

I remember having an accident back around
            1996/1997 when I was a small child. I didn't
remember much outside of seeing some paramedics.

Yeah I have been in a car accident and this was back in 2001 when I was only 11 years old. I was in the passenger seat riding with my dad's now ex-girlfriend when she fell asleep while driving and the car started going into the opposite lane and that was when we were struck by another car driving in the opposite lane. I ended up with both of my legs broken, a broken right thumb, a cut lip, and both of my two front teeth were chipped off so of course I now have filling in my two front teeth. I will admit I was not wearing my seat belt when I was in the car accident but ever since this all happened I've been wearing my seat belt ever since.

There was one occasion I remember, I can hardly bear thinking about it but I'll still tell you all about it, the brakes on our car didn't work properly for some reason or other, or else they weren't put on properly, and it started moving along the road while me and my mother were in the passenger seats.
Luckily though, we both survived and so did everyone else, and there was no accident resulting from it so I don't know why I've put it on here really.

No but my two younger sisters and my grandma were. I don't remember the accident because I was at school at the time. But I do remember someone from the office coming to my classroom and telling me that my grandpa would be picking me up from school that day. My grandma and sisters were not injured in this accident thankfully. They were just shook up because they were little one being only four years old and the other was only a year old at the time.

Does is count if you hit an animal? Because we hit a deer once with our car pretty scary.

Wow some great stories. I've been lucky other than a motorcycle accident that injured my back when I was 18.

I've known several people over the years that were killed or seriously injured in automotive accidence. A former co-worker and friend was killed this year in one due to wet roads. The father of a classmate in the fourth grade was killed on the way to pick them up from school one afternoon. They were out of school for a couple of months after it happened. The sister of a girl I worked with back in the 90s was killed on Christmas Eve when a drunk driver rear ended them. She was sleeping in the back seat.

I was in a self-inflicted one when I was five.

I had been staying at my aunt's all day and was more than ready to go home and play my new NES. When my mom finally picked me up, I find out that she needs to make a stop at my grandmother's place on the way in. Naturally, I wasn't happy with this. So when we got there and I could sneak out, I went to the car and attempted to drive myself home. Of course, I didn't have a clue what I was doing, so I ended up plowing into a tree. Besides some bruises and soreness the next day, I wasn't hurt.

I never did get to play the NES that day. Tragic.

Can't say I was ever "in" an accident during my childhood, however I witnessed a nasty one.

My family and I were traveling down a four lane highway with my dad behind the wheel, when he suddenly called out in panic. I looked ahead and the vehicle in front of us was flipping over and over across the road. I'm not sure how the accident began, but by the time it had finished flipping, it was laying upside down on the pavement. Dad got out to see if she was okay. Thankfully there was no major injury.

When I was in the 4th grade, my school bus collided with a pickup truck. The driver of the truck had to be taken away by an ambulance, but her injuries weren't serious and she was fully recovered in no time. Nobody on the bus required any medical attention. Our bus driver never drove a bus again. I felt bad for him, because he was a nice guy. To this day, I don't know who was at fault.
