Just today when I went to Futureshop, I finally got to try out the Wii U. It's pretty cool, the touchscreen on the controller is nice and big and the graphics look really nice.

The only available demo was Rayman Legends (which did a decent job demonstrating the capabilities of the controller).

My final comment; overall, looks promising, but I want to see nintendo really take advantage of the HD graphics. So are any of you getting this on release date?

no I prefer a normal sized controller and 1 screen Nintendo is light years behind PS3 and XBox as far as i'm concerned, but i hated the original Wii so maybe it's just me.

Light years behind or not, Nintendo still did very well with the Wii. The Wii U looks to have addressed and corrected many of the issues which hampered the original Wii which, by the way, has sold in numbers only Microsoft and Sony could dream of. Third party support looks be solid and the online capability has evolved for the better.

Nintendo has lost its touch for me. They just have nothing to look forward to. Their portables are still pretty solid, but their taking home console gaming to weird places. Guess their just trying to differentiate from the competition, especially when it seems they don't have a chance of producing anything on the competitors level.

I agree it seems like Nintendo's given up on actual gamers and are just trying to push to kids and girls, any of my gamer friends who have a wii only have it because they got it for their girlfriends or their kids and also still have either an xbox, ps3 or a gaming pc so they can still play "real" games. No offence to anyone who enjoys the wii i just personally am not a fan

Yeah, 'zactly. Plus the only reason you the Wii sold so many more consoles is because it was waaay cheaper. I feel like parents buy Nintendos while everyone else gets 360/PS3/PC.

I like Wii, even though it did not live up to its promise there are still a lot of good games on it. But there are more games that were disappointing. And tons of shovelware. And the core franchise games were just OK instead of amazing like they used to be. And there were many games that utilized the motion control poorly or sparingly. Virtual console was done really annoying (staggering release days) and Wiiware is almost all crap.

But Wii U does not even look that good. Nintendoland is bad idea, making their core franchises into crap. New Super Mario might be cool, I am definitely wary of Zelda after SS, and I haven't seen anything else interesting. I was excited by the first Wii U demo video but nothing afterwards.

I see surprisingly little marketing and advertising for something as major as a video game system launch. For me, this further supports my opinion that wii u will be a failure that could jeapordize Nintendo's future in the console gaming world. I've been saying this for a long time, Nintendo needs to back off of the console game and focus solely on hand held gaming.

First time in a long time I'm sitting out the early years of a Nintendo console. I know I'll buy the Wii U eventually because I love the Super Mario games but right now I'm waiting for the next Xbox or PS4. Wii U just doesn't seem like the leap ahead, in terms of hardware, that I'm looking for and while it's nice to see strong thrid party support most of the games are ones that I can or already have played on systems I already own. Once the big first party stuff like the next 3D Mario, Zelda, etc, hit, the U will be more than worth it but right now I'm just not seeing that game that makes me want to get the system right away.

Sony is in far more danger of having to drop out of the home console business than Nintendo is.

Nintendo has done very well with both the Wii and the DS/3DS so why would they drop out of one market?

i'm sure that anyone besides me is aware that nintendo is running out of ideas at this point. new super mario bros. was a neat way to bring the original super mario bros. formula back, but it just became the same damn thing through each installment. sure there's a new power up and one or two new game mechanics, but you're still collecting star coins and making it to the end of each level at a flagpost, and eventually saving the princess.

i have high hopes for nintendo land, but that's about it. i'm just not sure how many people are going to get pulled into buying one of these

Whether the formula is stale or not is irrelevant because sales indicate an entirely different interpretation. If these games didn't sell well, would Nintendo continue selling them at full price years after release? SMG2, Kirby, Metroid Other M, etc.., are selling for $49.99. It wasn't until recently DKCR and Brawl were finally lowered. The same can be said for Punch-Out, Animal Crossing and more.

The Mario games sell well, review well and outside of the 'loud' minority on the internet that likes to whine about everything, people generally still enjoy the games. If they didn't, sales wouldn't be ridiculous every time.

Demo the Wii U in the store and then play it at home. The difference is night and day.
