Jennings 2 years 3 months ago Posts: 458	Nintendo's Gamecube is probably my least played console. Not that I don't like it or anything it just hasn't gotten that much love in the last few years. I decided to change that tho as I am currently building up my GC library. It got me thinking about the system and its life span. It really did have some great games on it for its time like Resident Evil 4, SSB Melee, and my favorite Metroid Prime. Gamecube was the first system I ever bought on my own, I remember going up to Best Buy before they opened and got in a small line for the purple little box. Much like the Nintendo 64 tho, games worth buying were far and few between. I also think the lack of Rare titles (other than Star Fox Adventures, which is a whole other discussion)didn't help either. I remember thinking a Gamecube Perfect Dark game was going to be amazing, as we all know that didnt happen. So go ahead and share some thoughts on the Gamecube.

System 2 years 3 months ago Posts: 74809	i had many lost weekends with super smash bros. melee, and i bought it right off the shelf when it first came out. star fox adventures bored the hell out of me though. the only thing i'm not fond of with gamecube discs is that if you get just the slightest scratch on you that annoying "disc can't be read" message pops up. hell i've got like two scratches on a few of my ps2 discs and they still work just fine

I will say that the Gamecube controller is one of the best designed IMO.

Oldschoolgamer83 2 years 3 months ago Posts: 1360	The GC was also the first console I ever bought on my own, unfortunately it wasn't the wisest investment. I had hoped it would be a return to form for Nintendo and while we got some great stuff like Metroid Prime 1, F-Zero GX, Resident Evil 1 remake, RE 4, Smash Bros. Melee and the severely under-appreciated Eternal Darkness, there really wasn't much worth playing. Super Mario Sunshine, Wave Race, the All-Star Baseball games (which was a great series on N64) and Mario Kart Double Dash were just some of the severe disappointments for me and while the third party support was better than on N64 in terms of the volume of games, the quality just wasn't there and the GC still missed several important multiplats the biggest being GTA. Overall it wasn't a bad system really, I had some fun with it but it really lacked compared to Xbox and especially PS2.

Drahken 2 years 3 months ago Posts: 1239	The GC is my second least played console, behind PS3. I didn't purchase either one, nor would I have chosen to. They were both given to me as holiday gifts, the "you shouldn't have, no, I mean you REALLY shouldn't have" kind.

jps 2 years 3 months ago Posts: 3	i purchased 3 once because there was a pricing error and they were dirt cheap. sold one at a profit, gave one away as a present and i possibly still have the other one as i sold the game out of it for more than the package cost me. i am ashamed to say i have never played on a gc! i need to buy some games and see if mine still works i think.

stake n sheak 2 years 3 months ago Posts: 1772	I like the controller too, Jennings. Although it is not good for old games like Megaman 2. I had the collection disc and returned it asap. Mario Sunshine sucked bigtime. Metroid Prime, Killer 7, I could not get into. I liked Defender for a little while but I got pretty tired of it. What do they all have in common? Bad (imo) 3D navigation. Starfox Adventures, yeah, totally lame. Also bad navigation, plus it just seemed like a boring Zelda ripoff. Did anyone play Starfox Assault? Was that one good? Games I liked: Geist Bloodrayne Alien Hominid Ikaruga Paper Mario & 1000 Year Door Rampage World Tour Zelda Windwaker Tony Hawk American Wasteland Viewtiful Joe one of the Mario Party games There's a few other games I still want to check out. I'd like to play the flipped version of Twilight Princess but even used copies are like $30 so I don't know if I'll ever get it.

Die hard is absolutely friggin horrible, entirely unplayable. Not due to any bugs, but due to absolutely piss-poor design. It's first person perspective, with binocular vision. Before you can even play, you have to get through some training crap. Part of said training crap is jumping a gap, a gap which you can't see because of your binocular vision. If you jump a micrometer too soon, you won't reach the other side. If you jump a micrometer too late, you're already falling. How the flying F~ are you supposed to make a precision jump when you can't see your feet?! This game is a prime example of why I despise FPS games. The xmen one is a typical street fighter kind of one, nothing special. The mario party one is rather fun, but gets tedious waiting for the other players to complete their turns. The rest are all "ok", nothing great, nothing terrible.

While the first play through was ok, it just did not have that "wow Mario a new Mario game!" feel to it. Like the system this is one of my least replayed Mario games. Its funny you mention Star fox Assault Steak n Shake, I just bought it the other day at V-stock and was the inspiration for this thread. Its by no means Star Fox 64 and when I first played on it back when it came out I did not like it (also didn't help that RE 4 had just come out too). But since no new Star Fox game seems to be on the horizon I went back to it and I don't think it is as bad as I remember it. I just don't understand why Slippy must be so damn annoying in every Star fox game.

For years I thought it was just Sunshine. I never got Mario 64 so I didn't know. After giving Galaxy a try (and hating it), and loving New Super Mario Wii, I have realized it's the 3D. Mario simply does not work in 3D.

System 2 years 3 months ago Posts: 74809	i'll admit i did get a few rage attacks with mario galaxy. granted it does have its fair share of easy peasy missions, but some of the purple coin challenges as well as one or two normal missions out there take several tries to do. speaking of which is anyone familiar with the chinese rip-off of that game?

Things could have turned out much differently if it wasn't facing such tough competition, used a better media then a mini disc and in turn, had better third party support. Lets not forget the lackluster online play. Besides first party titles, not much else was worth playing. There were some but not many.
