I see some people jumping on the "I hate the 2000s" bandwagon. Hey, I'll jump on too.

Grrrr... I hate the 2000s. That whole decade is like Satan in my eyes to the point where I want to rage. Grr... fuck the 2000s. I hope all the kids born in that decade gets wiped off the planet so that us 90s kids will rule the whole planet. 8)

So does that mean you were born in 1999?

Maybe when they think "00s" they think 2008-2013, instead of the actual years.

Why is it that whenever the name Orangejuice90s or Laddersnake is brought up, we never hear from the guy who appears to be his alt afterwards? Hmm. Provocative.

Personally I think it's because it's just too recent for most folks. This is a website dedicated to nostalgia, and nostalgia for most people doesn't kick in until at least 10 years have passed. I would expect that within the next 10 - 15 years there will be a whole new set of people joining this site who will talk with fondness all the games and tv shows that came out in the 2000s.

But for a lot of us now, we have no nostalgic stock in the 2000s yet (or ever, if your nostalgia is only tied to your kid and teen years).

Musicwise, the only good things the 2000s actually have to offer are some Electronic Music pieces like "Strobe" and such.

Good TV shows did exist like "Breaking Bad" for example.

I have to disagree with you on some of that blueluigi. In some ways "the old days" were better. In some ways the the time period before I was born was better as was the time period before that. This video from back in 1939 in NYC gives us a glimpse of how things were back then. http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/lookout/see-1939-york-city-vibrant-color-210550705.html?bcmt_s=m#ugccmt-container
This was during the great depression and despite this people were dressed nicely. You don't see a bunch of fat slobs with their belly's' hanging out, wearing shorts and flip flops while talking on their cell phones. People took pride in their appearance. People dressed up to fly, to go to the movies and go out to eat through the 70s. In those days people worked hard for a living. They didn't sit on their asses and collect government handouts. Men acted like men and women acted like women. There wasn't this confusion about gender roles or how genders should act. Kids didn't get arrested at school for drawing a picture of a gun. In fact they played cops and robbers during recess. Kids didn't kill each other either. They took it outside after school, fought it out and were friends the next day. Girls didn't fight at all unlike today. It was a much simpler time and very few from those day think today is better.

I wouldn't want to give up modern technology or advances in medicine. Nor would I want to give up the knowledge that I have, but those things aside I would rather live in another time period. There are a lot of great things about today, but there are a lot of bad things too. Sadly we will never live in a utopia. As life gets easier we'll just become more lazy and more sensitive. We will question the norms and try to go against it. In other worlds we will never find what works and stick with it.

I agree the bitching about TV is pointless, but it really isn't that great. The only thing that makes it great is the variety we have today. You just have to fish through a lot of crap to find the good stuff. Music is mostly auto tune and lacks the talent we saw in the past. There is some out there, but again you have to fish through all the crap to find it. The issue is the wrong music is being promoted today.

So while life is overall better today there is no reason why we can't appreciate the past and try to preserve some of it.

I couldn't say I hated the 00's. After all, many significant life events during the decade have brought me to where I am now. I was married, professionally things moved into a much better direction, two of my three kids were born, we moved into a much more comfortable home... so I have much to be thankful for from the decade.

Culturally, I'm no fan. The biggest problem with it... cell phones. Yeah, we've had them since the 80's. But it wasn't until the 00's that EVERYONE had one and they were now "smart". Now, nobody can take their blame nose out of the things. It disgusts me how many people I see per day with their faces buried into a phone. We're not interacting with our world like we used to. We're "in" our world, but we're not a part of it like we once were. Teenagers are REALLY bad about this. They can't go two minutes without pulling it out and doing who knows what. Maybe I'm overreacting, but I don't believe I am. I really feel like our cell phone fixation is going to have an overall negative impact on our society.

Some other things that I think really hurt the 00's have already been mentioned here... terrorism, fear, etc.

For those who spent their formative years in that decade, I have no doubt they are very special. But I feel sure that, in this case, the two decades prior offered a better landscape for creating those childhood memories. I feel that way not just about my own childhood decade (the 80's) and the one that followed (the 90's), but also about the 50's (my father's decade). So my feeling that there is truth to this is not dictated by my own experience alone.

Remember the video arcades, comic book stores, baseball card stores too? There were a lot in the 80's. You hardly find any of those today. All you find is a heap of crap like massage parlors, insurance offices and real estate offices, and beauty salons. I have to agree, the 00's really do suck! I'd rather live in Japan!
