GreenSpider123 2 years 5 months ago Posts: 18	Everywhere you look now people are saying how the 00s were a crappy decade. Also, a lot of people who were born in the mid and late 90s are saying they are 90s kids and don't want to admit to being 00s kid. I am a 90s and 00s kid as I was born in 1989, but when it comes to people born in 1996 and 1997 saying they are 90s kids it gets annoying. They don't want to claim the 00s at all. I understand a lot of bad things happened in the 00s such as 9/11, Iraq war, huge worldwide recession etc, but surely there is something to be proud of from the 00s. I want to be able to be proud of the decade I grew up and was a teenager in, but why are so many people resentful of the 00s?

Anyway, besides all that bad stuff, what is actually memorable that sets it off from previous decades?? Most decades have fads and trends that made it stand out..like the 70's had bell bottoms, discos, afroes, the 80's had big hair, tv videos, cassette tapes, and the 90's had hip hop, the internet, and the real big use of cell phones. The 00's have...??? Besides the technology, such is I(Everything), better flatscreens, since the flatscreen tv came out in the late 90's, more and better cellphones,... what else is there? There's no big fashion trends. I have a shirt from 2000 that is still in style! LOL The music style has not really evolved that much...a pop song from 2001 has no distinction from one in 2011, besides the fact that you might know it's from 2001. The only real big change is global technology. If you watch a movie from 2000 and you see their cell phone, computer or tv and that is the only thing that would redflag that the movie is old. Am I right or am I wrong??

jango52577 2 years 5 months ago Posts: 2806	I blame it on 9/11, rising gas prices, and the failing economy mostly and then after that, the fact that pop culture hasn't really tried anything daring in the last 15-20 years. I mean autotuned hip hop and movie remakes are all the last decade has to show for it.

darthmunk 2 years 4 months ago Posts: 3365	It's because everything after the 90's got too technical. Technology heightened and everything became too easy. TV and movies got less imaginative and original. Basically there were hardly any good new ideas in the 2000's. Everything got bland, theere was no color, did u notice how the 90s were super colorful and crazy. 2000s were boring. still are.

The recession thing & duh-bya were major disasters of course, but the 80s & 20s also had huge recessions & we don't remember them as being crappy. Why? Because they had personality. The 20s had flappers & machine guns, and the 80s had neon colors & magnum P.I. As far as naming the decade, most people label it "the new millenium". Personally, I prefer "the aughts" (think about when you saw an old geezer in a cartoon & he started talking about his youth, "why, I remember back in 17 aught 6...").

Plus tons of unimaginative pop everywhere (how is "Do you ever wonder why this music makes you high it takes you on a ride" creative?). Of course, it was pretty much a happy decade for much of Asia with their economic booms. One thing you can be proud of was the technology and the advances. Getting almost whatever you wanted in the 2000's became easy thanks to the expansion of the internet and its increasing speed. In just moments you could listen to music from any decade without having to wait all day on the radio. Streaming was super fast online thanks to YouTube and Metacafe. Research became easier because of the large amount of info online. Technology advanced much more and became much cheaper. The world basically became much more convenient thanks to technology.

And not like you can really ask anyone who was around during the time. I've never heard the tech term of what this decade we're in now is? Like someone saying... "That's so 90's or 80's" Something that happened 10 yrs ago... What do they say?? Sparkle 2 years 4 months ago Posts: 64	You could call it the technological era? Since almost everyone has access to a computer of some sort with the internet and/or some sort of device such as a iPod/iPad/smartphone. As someone who grew up in the early 2000s (was born in 1994) I thought that the early part of the decade had some pretty good (or at least by my standard) cartoons. Pop music was still pretty good then too but now it's all the same sort of autotuned crap. There's no denying that 9/11 put a huge downer on the decade though. Security at airports has tightened a huge deal and everybody is more aware and afraid of terrorist attacks. Here in the UK we're especially aware because of the Olympics. People are more overprotective and more paranoid of danger because of the multitude of news channels who tend to report on every little thing like it's a national emergency. One comment said on Twitter can spread over the internet into the next big thing. But as I've said before, every generation hates the one following it. Whilst the 2000s has its problems, I don't see why overall it's worse then previous decades.

Definitely much worse than the 90's in the USA, since it had the country's longest economic boom in history, official end of the Cold War, and the birth of the internet, while the 00's had constant recessions and terrorist fears. Of course it still wasn't as bad as the 1930's with the depression. Then again, I'm Canadian, and we didn't experience as many problems as Americans. The 2000's were pretty stable where I lived.

bassman21 2 years 4 months ago Posts: 4553	The early part of the 00s were OK. After 911 the fear of terrorism really changed the feeling of everything, but I liked how Americans banded together. Besides 9/11 it wasn't until the mid 2000s that everything seemed to get crappy. The war, the world turning on the USA, the hurricanes, fashion trends, music, movies and TV. The great recession of 2008 really put things over the edge. The good news is we are slowly recovering. So far I've liked the 10s better than the 00s. It seems people's mindset has changed for the better.

Drahken 2 years 4 months ago Posts: 1239	I just thought of a good name for the 00s: "the ooze". "The ooze" is obviously a derivative of "the 00s", plus "ooze" (or "eeyews") accurately describes how many people feel about the 00s.

Unfortunately, I had some difficulties, too. The articles I wrote from 2008 to 2009 saying positive things about the 00s didn't tell the whole story. You see, it was in 2005 that my Mom was diagnosed with cancer, and it had been in remission from 2007 to 2008, but gradually started coming back in 2009. Even as my personal life was on an upswing, my family life was rough.

Considering the decade was very sexualized (sexy photos everywhere, Rule 34, yiff popularity), and 00 look like two round things side to side. Of course, "ooze" could work to describe the decade sexually too.....
