Ones like akira, gits, and nausica shouldn't count. Nearly every anime movie out there (hell, nearly every anime, period) is based on a manga. Including those in a question like this is like saying "what's your favorite car with a motor in it?".

Not counting anime movies, the only movie I'm aware of that's based on a non-superhero comic is heavy metal.

After seeing Dredd 3 times in theaters, it's a new favorite.

First one I think of is Ghost World

Judge Dredd doesn't wear a cape, but he's still kind of a superhero type. Dredd is like Punisher, after all. Maybe the question should be "non-action comic book movies".

Scott Pilgrim and The Crow are among my favorites too. I re-watched both a few times over winter and they hold up so well.

Dredd is a cop, not a superhero.

I'm saying, he's LIKE a superhero. Does crazy stuff no ordinary human could possibly do. And very action-oriented stories.
