How do the two versions compare? The painting is really finicky in the Wii version and many reviews complain about it. Is it cumbersome on PS2?

I have this game for my Wii (I did play it on the PS2 as well, though). I mainly love the art style of the game. I am not sure if I ever managed to beat it (I did make it pretty far). I always saw it as Zelda, but with a Wolf.

If you want an adventure game without turn based style and is challenging then you ought to try Shadow of the collosus. It's a ps2 gem, came out around the same time Okami did if I remember right. You have to hunt down these big ass collosus monsters and figure out how to defeat them. I think its a cool game but its certainly not for everyone. Give it a shot if you never played it.

Yeah Shadow of the Colossus is timeless

Hm, now I'm stuck. I just defeated Blight in Sei-An City. After this, the game directs me to follow Kaguya to Sasa Sanctuary. But when I get there, it's closed up just like it is at the beginning of the game. Whether day or night, I can't go through the rock like I could before. All walkthroughs say just go into the Sanctuary. But I can't. Anybody else encounter this?
edit: I figured it out. You have to warp. I don't usually like to warp but eh, whatever.

Hrm. I passed that recently...if you're talking about what I think you are, there should be four flowers floating above the rock. She needs to use the latest brush technique to paint a vine from each flower to one of the hooks.

spoiler: When each of the four hooks are connected to a flower, the rock will float up, revealing a pit. Then Amaterasu can drop into the pit and encounter the boss. After winning the battle, she will find Umi.

Ooh Shadow of Colossus, yes. I heard about that when it came out but ignored it. I have a PS2 now so I will have to check that one out.

I just started playing this game. (wii version) Most commonly described as "like Zelda" and the director does cite Zelda as a major influence. It's true; unfortunately it also brings many problems that modern Zelda has. Such as: repeating long, unskippable strings of text. Obnoxious "guide/helper". Certain actions working right only sometimes, for no reason. Some other things that bug me that don't come from Zelda: camera controls very slow. Combat system is boring (one action over and over).

Good things about it: looks cool. Nice story/environment. Shopping system is not a total cunt (unlike new Zelda).

I'm enjoying the game overall, but those annoying bits, I can't get over. All I want is another challenging adventure game with not turn-based combat, that doesn't piss me off! Is it too much to ask?

Talk general about Okami or tell me some other games to play or whatever.

Well I finished the game. Took about 60 hours with trying to feed all the animals, restore all the plants, find all the treasures etc. I tried to do all the sidequests too but there were a couple I couldn't figure out.

                            Postgame thoughts --

-At first the combat was boring, but it gets more interesting as you get more weapons.

-Conversely, the brush techniques get pretty lame later in the game. I understood water spout letting you draw water from a source to a target at first. But when fire, lightning, and ice have the same limits, that's really weak. Same with the catwalk technique. Come on. I'm a god. I should be able to use these powers wherever I want.

-Way too god damn much talking in this game. I would like to hear the story but by the end of the game I was skipping large swaths of it because they belabor every damn point. I don't mind a little expository dialogue but this game really has about 20 or 30 times too much.

-I like the game layout. The dungeons aren't overcomplicated or annoying. The world terrain is varied, and the areas have good complex shapes, yet with the map function they are not difficult to navigate.

-I would love to see a 2D version or sequel of this game. I think that could be awesome. I would much rather play that than Okamiden. 2D wouldn't sell in the late 90s, but we are beyond that now. It's a great format and I want to see it return to strength. New SMB, Donkey Kong Country Returns, and Muramasa Demon Blade all showed that a great game doesn't have to be 3D. New Super Mario Wii shipped more than twice as many copies as Mario Galaxy or SSBB. There's a reason! Unfortunately I think the big game studios have trouble realizing it.
