there were a few games but the only one that i can think of is the museum level of bart vs the space mutants cause i never made it past it

Come to think of it, I never did figure that level out either. I want to say there was a obstacle that neither I or my then-girlfriend could figure out.

Every stage in Ghouls and Ghosts, Metropolis Zone in Sonic 2, Tubular and Funky in Mario World, and the Forest Temple in Ocarina of Time. All of these stages seemed to have been specifically designed to give you a rough, unfun experience.

Mike Tyson in Mike Tyson's Punch out. I didn't have the code to get back to him.

The infamous underwater defuse the bombs level in TMNT for NES. I'd at least lose a few good turtles in that mission and then never be able to beat the rest of the game.

The last half of Back To The Future. It was only when emulators came out that I found I had the patience to slog my way through the rest of the game. It took 25 years, but a few years back, I finally got the Delorean up to 88.

That boss from Chrono Trigger, where he can only be harmed by magical attacks, not physical ones.
