I know it because I remember seeing the fact when the game was included on the Sega Genesis Collection for PS2 and PSP (I have it for the former console), and as I was browsing the museum for each game in the collection (PSIII was included as well as Phantasy Star II and IV), it said that Phantasy Star III was the black sheep of the entire Phantasy Star franchise.
