    		 Frank Capra's "Mr. Smith Goes To Washington." Yes, THAT "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington," the same one from 1939, about a Boy Scout leader that gets appointed to the Senate.

    A lot of people think the film is a whimsical take on pre-WWII politics in the US. WRONG. This movie is actually one of the most sardonic and scathing works of anti-Federalist satire to be found in the 20th century,a film filled with so much subversive subtext that you wonder if Capra was secretly an anarchist or something.

    Child abuse. Crony Capitalism. Martyrdom. Not exactly things you think about when you think "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington," but as it turns out, these are very much the central themes [driving forces, even] of the film.

    Along those same lines, can you think of any other "seemingly innocuous" movies that are just FILLED with underlying political cynicism? There's got to be some other great examples out there, I know.
