        		 Probably my favourite mario game, I just managed to beat it for the first time this year (without using any warp whistles) and I still play this game sometimes, never gets old.

          		 Everyone likes this game man. It is the best. I know damn near all the secrets. I prefer the 8-bit version over the snes version cause Mario has black overalls and it has all the minor glitches and stuff.

              		 It was one of my first NES games, and the first one that I totally conquered (granted, I can't take too much credit for that though, since I was also given the "secrets" book for it, with all the tricks, maps, etc). I got an NES with the SMB1/duck hunt combo game from one relative for xmas and SMB3 from another on the same xmas.
              I used to play that game to death. I was at the point that I could either beat the game in less than 30mins (using warp whistles of course), or could get through every single level & end with 99 lives (not using any kind of "cheats" like the infinite shell stomp, just gathering coins & getting the 3 cards at the ends of levels).

                		 I don't know anyone who didn't like this game. I know I did...of course I am slightly biased because I like the SNES version over the NES version, and I like for only one reason. You could save it, which made completing the game much easier. I still love the NES version, though. Probably the most played game on the NES for us, along with Mike Tyson's Punch Out.

                  		 It's my favorite video game of all time...I have vague memories of playing it when it was still new...I'm still trying for a perfect game, I've come so close soooo many times, World 8 gets to me though :(

                                  		 Knowing the Mario nerd that I am I own the NES, Famicom (Japanese NES) SNES, and Game Boy Advance versions of Super Mario Bros. 3 and to be honest I don't know which version I prefer better since the SNES and Game Boy Advance versions you can save your game and the NES and Famicom versions are the original Super Mario Bros. 3 games. I usually like the original games better than the remakes but since you can save your game in the SNES and Game Boy Advance versions then they're pretty decent for me.

                                    That damned hopping movement made it useless on land, and even underwater it wasn't very useful most of the time, a fireflower was way more useful.
                                    I attempted to use it a few time, to make it last more than the lone underwater level that you first choose to use it in, or to get the special message from the king for beating a koopa ship in the frog suit, but because of the hopping movement I could never get more than 1/4 of the way through any land level with it.

                                      		 The hammer suit was the only one that was really good. The frog suit, like you said makes swimming easier but you have no attack and regular swimming isn't very hard to begin with; and you can't walk in it. The tanooki suit, while it looks cool, is just like the leaf except you can also turn into a statue. Which is neat, but not helpful in any situation in the whole game. I thought it would be when I first heard of it, but it's easier to dodge attacks than it is to time the transformation.

                                      It was the first time they used suits, so I think the concept wasn't refined and that's why only 1 out of 3 actually came in handy. Due to level design, the suits in Super Mario 5 (NSMB Wii) are much better integrated and more useful.

                                          I loved the frog suit, but only for swimming. I had fun swimming with it for some reason. It was pretty crappy on land and for pretty much everything else.

                                          The best power ups to me was the Tanuki suit and the Hammer Head brother one. I just liked turning into a statue with the Tanuki suit and throwing hammers will always be fun. :P:lol:
