I remember I picked mine on launch day ten years ago but I also had to pick up a bunch of diapers for my then baby boy so when I came home I could barely walk because I was carrying that goddamn heavy Xbox box on one arm and a huge diaper package on the other. Heh,good times... :D

Damn, that Duke controller was freaking BIG. When I invited some of my friends to play they were all "What the Hell is this?" But we got used to it pretty quickly playing Halo and NFL 2K1 (damn,I miss that series. Damn you,EA! :( ).

        I still hate that controller.

I also had PS2,but the games for the console had been so very disappointing all thru that year that I welcomed both Xbox and NGC. It wasn't until games games like DMC,Burnout and -of course- GTA3 that the console got REALLY good.

          2001 was a landmark year for gaming,just like 2011.

I still remember the Taco Bell ads for Xbox all over the place like it was yesterday. I didn't buy an original Xbox until summer 2004 but I played plenty of Halo at friends' houses. Still my favorite FPS to this day. Other great games I remember from the Xbox are Splinter Cell, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Chronies of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay, Forza Motorsport 1, Project Gotham Racing 1 and 2, Crimson Skies and one of my favorite RPGs of all time, Jade Empire. I'd love to see Bioware make a Jade Empire sequel some day.

I got an Xbox that Christmas, so about a month after it came out. We also got some star wars space game with it but my brother told me not to open it cuz he wanted to switch it for Halo. I said "I don't want to play a game about angels!" Boy was I wrong.

I picked up Halo Anniversary yesterday and stormed through 8/10 levels. its just as good as it was back in the day! still my favorite fps ever.

Also, does this make Xbox retro now? Is it 10 years when things become retro?

In 2001, people were already calling the SNES retro and it was 10 years old back then. Same with the NES in 1995 when it turned 10...it was already considered a "classic" video game system.

If I ever owned an Xbox, I would've made this my first game. :D

And retromaniac, from what I've been hearing on Retrojunk, even if something has been around for 10 years, it's not considered retro.

Yeah, I was never a fan of the original Xbox. It seemed like the only exclusive games on it I ever heard anyone talk about were the Halo games, and just about everything else on it seemed to also be on the PS2.

Speaking of the Xbox's 10th anniversary...I just picked up Halo Anniversary for the 360 yesterday (it's the original Halo remade with modern graphics), and it has a cool feature where you can instantly switch between the new graphics to the original 2001 graphics while in-game. Gives you a good idea on how far graphics have come in the last 10 years.

Xbox's slogan summed up my thoughts. "One is the most powerful gaming system on the planet. The other is purple and has a handle."

Jade Empire was most definitely not mediocre.

MEch assualt 1 and 2, kingdom under fire, DnD Heroes, Morrowind, all good. Hte Xbox version of Jurassic Park operation Genisis had the ability to unlock one more dig site then the PS2 which made the game play vary a lot. And I have Dinotopia on xbox, sure its on gamecube as well, but I found it on Xbox at a store first. Yeah....love me some xbox.

The Xbox is one of my favorite consoles. I had no interest in it until cousin in came in to visit about a year after it came out and I played, I was hooked on Halo. That following christmas I got one along with Halo and Dues Ex Invisibe War. I spent all Christmas break playing Halo and watching Aliens over and over again.

Another thing I loved about Xbox was Xbox live. It was the reason I got broadband and staying up late playing Doom 3 with my cousin is still a fond memory. We played it every night for a month straight together over Xbox Live. Good times.

The X-Box was the best system of its day in my opinion...
Sure, the PS2 beat it to dust because of its popularity, but was it more powerful? No... Did it have better games? It's up to the user.

X-Box games that I had that were exclusives that I loved... (to name a few).

                                      - Blinx: The Time Sweeper ... from Microsoft... we're due for a 360 update.
                                      - Blinx 2!... A better sequel, and still fun game.
                                      - VooDoo Vince... Another Microsoft gem that's totally underrated.
                                      - Psychonauts... Still yet underrated, and sold so few copies, but great game.
                                      - Crazy Taxi 3... Yes, X-Box had its own original itteration in Vegas.
                                      - Jet Set Radio Future... I thought it's tunes (and gameplay) were better than the Dreamcast.
                                      - ToeJam & Earl 3... Not only did SEGA release this badboy, but it also had 2 free DLC
                                      - Panzer Dragoon Orta... The last SEGA exclusive, and the best of the bunch.
(characters & levels). I loved it, others lothed it. It's the only XBox game I finished.
                                      - House of the Dead 3... Yea, it's been release on other systems NOW, but at the time it was the only home release.
                                      - Project Gotham Racing 1 & 2... Both were great GREAT racing games because they defined arcade racing by rewarding you with good racing, and it was arcade style... oh, and you could import your own music.
                                      - Amped 1 & 2... The 2nd beat the first by leaps & bounds. I didn't care for the 360 version, though. It was a great snowboarding game that smacked of originality due to the goals of replayability.
                                      - Conker: Live & Reloaded... What's wrong with this? I missed the N64 version, and this was just a 'HD' remake. Wonder what a HD-HD remake would be like?? :D
                                      - Grabbed by the Ghoulies... Ok, a lot of hate went into this game, but I liked it. Why? I don't know... I just did. Rare gets a little credit, but I think it's a little underrated.
                                      - Midtown Madness 3... Finally not a PC version, it worked out pretty cool and fun. The bus, the dump truck, the new beetle, you name it... it was rather good.
                                      - Ninja Gaiden/Black... Team Ninja did the X-Box justice by starting the series here. Hard as f*ck, and looks & plays better than ANY Wii game could ever.
                                      - HALO!.. last but certainly not least, what's wrong with Halo? This sold the X-Box.

How could you not like the X-Box?

Those are just the exclusives... and those are just a few that I owned personally. Never could sell any of my games. Problem is that most of these games are NOT compatible with my 360, so I have to keep my original black box hooked up to my television to still enjoy these games, otherwise I'd have to download those games "on-demand" which is bogus since I legally own those games, and just takes up space on my HD!

This Space Is Reserved For My Signature...

Dude, what are you talking about? Jade Empire is one of the best games ever made. It's the highest rated game on the original Xbox and it's just as good as the Mass Effect games. Maybe better. Fable 1 was awesome too, best of the series so far. Xbox also had MORROWIND! Probably the best WRPG ever made. Xbox had all of the best RPGs, KOTOR anyone? PS2 has no RPGs except dumb final fantasy games. (all ff past 7 sucked). Xbox was much better than PS2, and GameCube was the most underrated console ever. its better than Wii IMO.

The way I see it, PS2 has way more games than Xbox but Xbox had more good games.

Well Xbox and Gamecube ended, PS2 still kept going, despite the release of PS3. Sony is kicking some ass in the market lately.
