Normally I'd scoff and say "Oh yeah, terrible acting and shoddy visual fx" but sometimes thats not always the case. Like for:

    Command Performance
    Blood & Bone
    Death Race 2
    The Lion King 1 1/2

Any good ones you can think of?

Joy Ride 2 was good for a direct-to-DVD film. The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride was good too.

        A history of violence.

Edit: Oh, and was'nt Green Street Hooligans a straight to video release? That was a good movie starring Frodo Faggins.

That one doesn't count. This is a thread discussing non-theatrical films that were released on VHS and DVD.

Return of Jafer, Disney's first "direct to video" animated movie, really was pretty good. Maybe, I have a soft spot for that movie since Iago was the main character and I've always liked Iago. But in that movie, he was really became a much more complex and interesting character. I very much enjoyed it.

I haven't seen "Lion King: 1 and a half" though I've heard some fairly good things about it.

Sledgehammer- which now has a DVD release. Other pick is Lunch Meat which has no release. Think a fun version of TCM

Drive - The one with Mark Dacascos; low budget but nicely done like The Terminator or District 9.

Midnight Meat Train was good, I don't think it ever played in theaters.
