Wow, I am so sorry for those of you who had it so late in the game. We had it for 6 months in 2000/2001 and my Mom couldn't stand it so we switched. LOL.

Before DSL there was ISDN which gave you 128k is full mode.

I never had it, but knew someone that did. It was commonly used for business that didn't want to pay for a T1 line.

So when did you have to upgrade to broadband?

I had it for awhile, until my family went to a hotel and decided to switch over to DSL. For modern day internet, mine sucks for downloading, uploading, and buffering videos. I guess that's what happens when you live in the middle of nowhere. I hope since Google is releasing gigibit internet sometime next year, more services will come out this way.

I played my Dreamcast online the last few days before I switched to DSL.

I remember back in 2001 when I first got my own computer and staying up all night to download maybe 3 songs off Limewire with a good connection using dial -up.

Also I remember it was a pain in the balls setting up dial-up for Dreamcast but man I loved staying up all night playing Quake and Phantasy Star Online.

my first computer was a commodore 64 (64 for the amount of K for total memory). The monitor was the TV set.

My first modem was a 9600 bauds (totally cool at the moment), talk about dial up.

We used to connect to the net, before browsers. DOS based stuff. Yes, I was a geek kid.

I just remembered, I also had an external modem you plugged in the parallel port, or was it the serial? I'm pretty sure it was the parallel. Oh yeah, before USB.

I would say dial-up is strictly 1990's technology. It was around the summer of 2000 when I first got broadband (cable) and even then I considered dial-up as "old school". Now going back to my early days of internet browsing (starting in January 1996), I do recall liking that sound when connecting to the internet through dial-up...followed by the female voice saying "Welcome to CompuServe" (which, of coarse, was the internet service I had back then)!!!

I remeber in like 95 or 96 playing Duke Nukem on the internet with my friend on dial up, we would have to call each other first then hang up and sign on at the same time to play each other lol

Dial up was hilarious, that sound it made when You'd start it up.

That sound was your modem handshaking with the modem at your isp.

Good thing it was replaced by broadband/Ethernet but I bet you tickled your butt hole when you first heard of it.
