The only thing that I find annoying is when people saying that EVERYTHING good died on 12/31/1999 11:59:59.

I get REALLY defensive when people say EVERYTHING because anime and video games were great.

The late 90's weren't as good as the early-to-mid 90's IMO.

It's a process. I think it became unbearable and undeniable around the mid-2000's.

I have tons of memories from 1997 onwards, and IIRC, in 2000 the pop culture was basically the late 90s as well. Justin Bieber wasn't even singing, and people were just as polite as they were in the late 90s. Also, I still remember seeing tons of Saturday Morning cartoons (Sylvester and Tweety was one still running) still on, as well as the BSB vs NSYNC craze of the late 90s. The WTC was still standing as well. Not everything was digital yet either.

Today's stuff comes from the very late 2000s (2007-2009).

So why do many retro people say that everything changed to what it is today the second it turned 2000?

Justin Bieber wasn't really relevant until 2010.

Technically late 2009, but yeah Justin Bieber was hardly even relevant in the LATE 00s at all.

The reason why I think "tv sucks" for the since 2006 in regards to cartoons, is that the networks theirselves suck. Think about it, we had over 20 quality animation networks on cable and regular tv from 1990-2005, ranging from ABC Kids (schoolhouse rock era) to Toonami.....but those 20 QUALITY networks..............dwindled to just 2 in 2005 (that were still on top of their A game), which were Toonami and Adult Swim. Then that got worse in 2006 when Toonami started airing live action, UNDERPROMOTING J.L.U., using Sara, Peter Cullen, Absolution and gang less, focusing mostly on Pokemon, Yugioh, & Naruto instead of BALANCING the spotlight on all their shows, etc.

Then Adult Swim started falling off when Adult Swim started airing more Family Guy etc., to where you had to stay up until 2 in the friggin' morning to watch most anime which is a SPIT IN THE FACE concidering the fact that Anime was what brought Adult Swim to the dance in the first place. That's what also brought Toon Disney down, bringing in non-original Toon Disney shows-----pushing Gargoyles and the gang to the EARLY a.m. slot.

But I agree that you have to back up your comments especially if you're going to say "tv sucks", give a reason instead of sounding prejudice. Like in school when we're tought when giving class presentations, that even though we have A-list material, we still have to PRESENT THEM WELL to the multiple age audiences. Same thing for our beloved 90s-early 2000's networks. I get so annoyed when the excuse always pops out of people's mouths that "oh those shows still come on".....BULL CRAP! They still suck if you don't present them well, the difference of commercial quality between cartoon networks of the 90s/early 2000s and 2006-2011 should be quite OBVIOUS!

I also can't stand the fact that we're being BRAINWASHED into believing that the only way to enjoy cartoons is to OVERUSE the convenience of watching shows on the internet. Even at it's most convenience, it's still not better than watching it on a QUALITY network!

What do you all have to say about this?

Re-runs shouldn't count as "those shows still come on".

Some people don't realize it's all an evolution. But yeah 2000 is definitely NOT like today, it's quite a long while ago now. Even as late as 2008 seems kinda different to me now, but I notice changes easily. Pre 2005/2006 is definitely old now before social media and widespread HDTV and the pop punk music, nu metal, crunk, post grunge, etc was different from today. Today's music on the other hand has like indie pop and electronic influences. Seems like another era from now to me.

I think things changed once the year 2000 ended. There was so much hype for the year 2000 and once it came people saw that everything remained the same. The world didn't end and everything was as it remained and that people were making a big deal out of nothing so the 90s vibe continued. Then 2001 rolled around and things definitely changed.

2000 was still an extension of the 90s. In 2001, things started to change.
