Right. Just a few years ago people started mocking me because I didn't have a cell phone. And when I wanted to sign up for some sites, they kept demanding that they texted me. I can understand that cell phones are good to have but starting somewhere in 2007 many sites REQUIRE that you have a cell phone to use it.

I was watching one of the cell phone service commercials (or maybe it was for a phone itself, I can't remember) and the people were saying they were literally using their phone all day for calls, apps, tools, etc and at first was thinking oh my god, your on your phone ALL day? then I had to stop and think wait..even though I don't have a cell currently (can't afford it, we have a digital phone that bundles with our cable and internet and have tracfones for emergencies) I'm constantly on my barnes and noble Nook, and to be honest with you, use it for youtube and facebook and hulu/netflix more than I actually read on it!

Then, even though there is nothing really happening there, most of us can't resist refreshing facebook randomly throughout the day. It's like an addiction.

Thank god though we live in a neighborhood with a lot of kids. Even though the kids drive me nuts (i'm only going on 32, so I dont know if it's the kids or me LOL) it's nice that my son is outside literally most of the day running around and playing. We have specific rules about how far away he can go in the neighborhood, and he has to run home and ask us first before he accepts any treats from friends or anything like that, so maybe a little stricter than rules our parents may have had being outside, but I think it's a good compromise. He's outside having a bit of freedom, getting exercise but also not terrorizing the neighbors or getting himself or us into trouble because we set down some rules. None of his other friends have to check in with their parents if they are leaving the street to head to the park behind the houses, but I told him at only 7 years old, we gotta know, because you just never know.

For me, technology is both a good and a bad thing. It's good because it affords me unprecented access to information and entertainment that I could never have IMAGINED fifteen years ago, but bad in a way, because it's seemed to have also made people more cynical and jaded in general.

I remember when it was a "big thing" to go to the local Blockbuster or Hollywood Video on Friday night and pick up a couple of VHS tapes or go the music store and buy a few CD's. 8)

Technology is a convenience, and should be used as so. What really bugs me is that every day there's something new all over the T.V., and we're urged to buy it. While I think things like computers and cell phones are a necessity, things like Ipads and Iphones are just gimmicks.

Although I have pretty much all of today's "gadgets"...such as two desktop PC's, one laptop, Samsung Galaxy S smartphone, iPod Touch, Playstation 3 and PSP, I'm also into old school (mostly 1980's-vintage) home audio components, boomboxes and Walkman-style cassette players/recorders. Even though I have TONS of mp3's on my computers and handheld gadgets, it's not uncommon for me at least a couple of nights a week to put a (vinyl) record or cassette tape on one of two of my old school sound systems and crank it up loud!

Yeah, I like to have modern technology in some areas (Like communication) but older stuff for entertainment.

I def don't hate it, but it has pro's and con's....then again you have to look at it both ways because the 80's/90's had pros and cons too. I def wish there was more communication in the world face to face these days.

Losing power for more than a few hours at a time (Like 9 or more) usually makes me realize how much I can't seem to "function" without technology of some sort lol. It also makes me realize i'd never survive without electricity.
