Commander Keen was for 3.1 .....and it was 2d.

here's a screen shot of it

edit: sorry, that was commander keen 4. which is the one I had.

Microsoft Adventure for the IBM PC - The FIRST text adventure for the PC, pretty boring

The Secret Of Monkey Island, the game that started my computer madness! That game made me what I am now. Many nights were spent in front of my sister's ol' 386 playing Monkey Island and listening to 80's New Wave and Hair Metal albums.

Monkey Island 2 is another one, I wrote a walkthrough for it for my sister which I wish I still had, it had a very unique way of navigation!

Freddy Pharkas Frontier Pharmacist - My sister got this and said I was not allowed to play it because it might have been too "dirty" for me. I would sneak into her room when they were not home and play a few rounds of it, it was not very dirty at all, except some of the jokes, but I never really cared much about the talking parts anyway.

Ultima VI: The False Prophet - The first game I owned. This is one of my favorite Ultima games, just for the freedom you are allowed in it, and it renders at blazing speed even on a 286/12! This was what I played before RUnning With Scissors came out with Postal.

X-Wing - I'm not much on flight sims, but this one left a lasting impression well enough for me to keep a 486 based PC around just to play it!

These are the games that I remembered playing in the 1990s:
                  - Descent Freespace 1 (The Great War)
                  - Freespace 2
                  - Swat 2
                  - Commander Keen (All the series except the "Aliens ate my babysitter", which I played that game as a demo. I also like the Keen Dreams game)
                  - Wolfenstein 3D
                  - Spear of Destiny
                  - Doom, Doom 2 and Final Doom
                  - Jazz Jackrabbit
                  - 4D Boxing
                  - Lotus
                  - Tristan Pinball
                  - Pinball Dreams
                  - Cyberia
                  - Descent 1
                  - Corridor 7
                  - Operation Body Count
                  - Arcy 2
                  - Corncob 3D
                  - Blake Stone
                  - Hugo
                  - Halloween Harry
                  - Crazy Cars
                  - Cosmo's cosmic adventure
                  - Traffic Department 2192

When I was little, I used to have a collection of 7 CD-ROM that has from Games (Disc 1) to some windows utilities too (Disc 7). I can't remember what the name of the collection was, but it was made by a company called "Aztech" or something like that.

I heard there is a DOS emulator out there on where you can play all of your old DOS games you cherishly remembered! The one program that I remembered was DOSBox. If you want to download it, please go to this link: http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/news.php?show_news=1

Nope, that definitely wasn't it. I remember ALL the backgrounds in this game were white. And the suit that the helmeted dude was wearing was, I think, a mixture of red and blue, IIRC. And for some reason the name "Bob" or "Bill" keeps coming up in my head, but I don't remember if they have anything to do with this game. Also, I played it when I was a sophomore or junior in highschool (1994 or 1995), but I don't know if that was when it actually came out. I just wish I could remember more details so I could Google it.

ETA that I would immediately recognize this game if I saw it.

maybe it could have been one of the other commander keen games?

I mean, i doubt there are many other games that have the main character with a helmet, wearing red and blue, and has a laser gun

one of the greatest and most intense openingi ever saw for a computer game was zone 66..a 2d jet fighter game...it begins with this fighter pilot trying to run to a city to warn of an attack and the city ends up being vaporised along with his wife

                                    Commander Keen all the way!
I have this game downloaded onto my computer right now. Great memories.

There was also this one strategy game called The Incredible Machine that I thought was pretty cool. The object of the game was to use these tools given to you like a fan, string, trampoline,basketball...etc... to somehow finish the mission...like put the basketball in the hoop or make the mouse find the cheese...etc

There was this one game that came out before Doom but it was kinda similar. I forgot what it was called.

ooh ooh This one game that was like PAC MAN but in 3D.

I just remembered another one that I'd completely forgotten about until I saw an icon of it in a LiveJournal community: Chip's Challenge.

And the game with the little guy wearing red and blue that I can't remember the name of, might be Jetpack. I'll have to Google it. I do know that it is NOT any of the Commander Keen games. The guy wasn't wearing a red shirt and blue jeans, he was wearing a one-piece red-and-blue suit.

EDIT: Okay, it wasn't Jetpack, either.

EDIT AGAIN: Also Pipe Dream! Remember that? Where you had to put the pipes together faster than the florescent green goop would spill out of them?

Now I want to play those again...

Oh man...MysticalChicken - I know exactly the one - a really tiny guy with much simpler graphics than keen, and the guy was definitely red... oh and I played that snowman skiing game too! Those were some of the best, yet it seems so few have played them. I think I bought a bunch on some CD value pack type deal...another great one was this really basic rpg - probably the first I played. I think it also came with a trial of Operation: Inner Space - another great game I'm not sure has been mentioned.

Anyhow, I've been looking for the name of the jetpack game for a while too, so I'll be sure to post it if I find it.

EDIT: The rpg was "Castle of the Winds"

EDIT: FOUND IT!!!!.....or at least I found the one I'm talking about hehehe - It was called MicroMan. You can find a site with a demo by googling "MicroMan's Crazy Computers 3.0".
