I got my 3DS at launch (i.e. before the prize cut), that means I have the Ambassador Certificate. At this moment 20 free games are announced, along with free updates for them and various promotions. Games are NES and GBA titles.

The 10 NES Virtual Console games are as follows:
    Super Mario Bros.
    Donkey Kong Jr.
    Balloon Fight
    Ice Climber
    The Legend of Zelda
    Metroid
    NES Open Tournament Golf
    Wrecking Crew
Zelda II - The Adventure of Link
    Yoshi

Some GBA games are still to be announced, but these are confirmed:
Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3
    Mario Kart: Super Circuit
    Metroid Fusion
    WarioWare, Inc.: Minigame Mania
    Mario vs. Donkey Kong
Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros 3
    Kirby and The Amazing Mirror

Everyone who got a 3DS before 12. August can download the NES games for free, GBA games will be available by the end of the year.

Things like this separates Nintendo from the competition when it comes to valuing the customer. Nintendo has been like this for 25 years whether giving a free game with a Nintendo Power subscription, offering OOT with a pre-order of The Wind Waker, Club Nintendo rewards, etc..,

The ten games were available on the eShop right on schedule and downloading was fast and easy.

They're dipshits in the downloadable market. Where's Earthbound? Where's the sales? Why are there very few demos? That's why Microsoft has the best downloadable market.

Well, the 3DS has been kind of a disaster so far, forcing them to have to drop the price by a significant amount. I'd hope they'd give early adopters something. I don't really see this as anything better than what Sony did after what happened with the PSN. People paid $250 for the 3DS day one and have had to sit through a long drought, had to read about cancellations of some anticipated games and then just a few months after having spent all that money see Nintendo offer an $80 price drop. To me it's only right to give those people who bought it early something and I'm fairly certain that Sony and MS would've done the same thing. Maybe not as many games but they'd have offered something.

The PSN outage/hacking was quite deserving of compensation. People paid for something they couldn't use and in some cases had their info compromised. The early adopters of the 3DS weren't deserving of anything yet Nintendo put forth a suitable gesture. Being the first to have a 3DS bit people in the rear-end.....for the most part. People knew the minimal library available and still took the risks. A substantial price drop was one such risk.

I purchased my 3DS three months after release not because the launch library was enticing but the fall and holiday releases looked extremely promising and thankfully the titles I am anticipating are still on schedule. Lets not forget the big hitters on the DS.

What MS would do is speculation but based on the track record of this company, I'm not willing to give MS any benefit of the doubt. What I can say with certainty is Nintendo has treated me much better then Microsoft. At least Nintendo throws us a bone once in a while.

By the way, what happened to LOZ: Four Swords that was suppose to be a free release for Zelda's 25th?

Well, for my money the 360 has provided with a hell of a lot more good games than the Wii and though the company is not perfect, MS has done some nice things from time to time so I'm willing to give them a little bit of the benefit of the doubt. Not much, however, and all of the big three have done things at one point or another this gen that have bothered me. I just don't think we should be too overly appreciative of what Nintendo's done. Lets not forget their refusal to bring over The Last Story or Xenoblade. And the 3DS has been a pretty big mess. To be fair, they didn't have to give the free games, so credit where it's due it is a nice gesture.

From a business standpoint Nintendo had to cut the price. They can't match the features on the PS Vita (which blows the 3ds out of the water technology wise and will retail at $250)and to go head to head on the same price point would be suicide during the holidays. Bad enough that they're relying upon remakes. Honestly the 3ds cost far more then it was worth when it came out, nothing but another mildly upgraded ds.

It's a lot more than a mildly upgraded DS, but I agree that they needed to get the price lower by the time the Vita came out. $70 with a new Mario platformer and new Mario Kart on the market when Vita comes out? Now it's Sony who needs to figure out how they're going to sell their system against a 3DS that will be more well established.

Just looked up the specs and you are right, it's not a mildly upgraded ds. I don't really think the vita is going to struggle much, especially when persona 4 or any metal gear game hits. Personally I'm done with nintendo handhelds, I find nintendo just seems to milk their customers a bit much. I was one of the original ds owners and it was fun, then they release another version this time with vibrant colors, made me feel like I was playing a black and white system. Then another version hits and yet another, each improving upon the last when honestly it should have been released like that in the beginning. And Mario games are good fun but it always seems this is all nintendo relies on after the third parties bail yet again.

Also, the 3d hurts my eyes, yep, maybe I'm too old for this stuff nowadays.

                      Such as?

Apparently the price drop the the 3DS is working. Sales increased in August by 260%. Nintendo isn't milking its customers by releasing another Mario Kart, Paper Mario, etc.., People make the choice to purchase these games and without sales, you would see a continual expansion in these series.

Unfortunately I don't speak Japanese so I reverted back to the North American website.

The third party releases are numerous but the big news and anticipation is for the three (3) first party titles being released starting in November.

Super Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart 7, Monster Hunter 3G+4, Tekken 3D, Sonic Generations, Kid Icarus, Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid, Animal Crossing, Fire Emblem, Dynasty Warriors, Paper Mario, Mario Tennis, and more, not to forget the Ambassador Games, 3D Video Recording and other new features with a new firmware update. Zelda 4 Swords with new levels (nes, gb, snes...) and a singleplayer mode is coming out in less than 2 weeks.

You must be at least a little excited, these are great news for 3DS owners.

3DS is looking better, it's Vita now that needs to prove itself. There is no way Sony can charge less than $250 and hope to make a profit so they better damn well have something to prove it's worth the high price. I'm a big fan of Uncharted but I'm not about to drop at least $290-300 to play one game.
