I got to playing on a snes w my niece and nephew and it got me to thinking about all the games i had for my snes and nes and how much fun I had w them. Yeah they were simple compared to today's in depth strategic games, but something about them made them epic. I think about the old theme songs and sounds, songs and sounds that r still heard today. I also think about how games were advertised back then. The commercials made the nes appear to created by aliens. The powerglove might as well be created on Olympus. They just made the games seem epic. What r ur thoughts.

I don't think all of them were so simple. Perhaps, complex in different ways. For example-- somehow I found every labyrinth in The Legend of Zelda when I was a kid, but I can't do it now. But Twilight Princess is so easy to figure out, I could play through it in a day or two if I wanted to.
But I see what you mean in another way. Compare any of the old arcade games to modern counterparts. Donkey Kong is so difficult that my longest play is under ten minutes. Yet the concept of the game is simplistic. Donkey Kong Country Returns is extremely easy by comparison, but the controls are far more complex. That is something cool about old games: A few simple rules would often create very complex play. Amazing things were done that would be impossible without the boundaries and limitations of older technology.

I miss FuncoLand where they didn't stop selling games from older consoles, and they would sell some of those as low as a dollar or even fifty cents.

I agree about commercials. They were by turns inspiring, goofy, thrilling, embarassing--usually a mix of all of those--but always charming. At least to me. Today's commercials don't feel like that. Surely part of it is perspective, age, and my naivete of 15 or 20 years ago. But I don't find them entertaining. Again, the limits that they dealt with. That meant they had to 'wow' you with at least some footage that wasn't from the game, and have a concept for the commercial. The ones I see now are just from the game. The graphics are amazing enough that they don't have to try to convince you that it's fun by showing other people having fun. Just show exactly what it looks like and you know it is.
"Coffee? Tea? SEGA!!" "Now you're playing with power!" The consoles don't have slogans to lead out the commercial any more, either. Now they have a sound effect.

I actually missed the simple mechanics and controls that vintage video games had on the old NES and Super NES consoles. Also, I liked listening to the music from various NES games, I really get a kick out of the soundtracks from Sunsoft's NES games like Blaster Master and Super Spy Hunter for example.

I miss the music mostly. I loved the whole 8-bit and 16-bit tracks. I'm not saying I don't enjoy today's games, that's not true because most are fantastic with graphics and the storyline. I also like orchestrated music like in the Super Mario Galaxy games.

I miss the creative game play. That's why despite how old, and outdated they are. the old school games are still the best!!!!!!!

Hell yeah. + remember how some of the sleeves were plain black, others had the Nintendo logo on them and you put your best games in those. Well I did, anyway.

I used to save everything that came in the SNES box. I loved those things. I think my mom made me throw them out because they took up too much room, lol.

I think it was the imagination of the games that makes them still massively enjoyable today. Sure, these days you may have a game or two that has a fun plot. Like Twilight Princess. But those are few and far between. But most games these days are either army shoot 'em ups, monsters attacking, or things like that. Back in the late 70s and 80s, you had all kinds of games...not just shooters and monsters attacking.

When it comes to old game I think is pure nostalgia. Is not like in movies that the CGI nowadays still praised the good ol' make-up/prosthetics. Old movies can be apreciated with/without nostalgia involved.

On the other hand, games now are way better than before. Since its entertaining and the person is actually playing the graphics do have a major role.

Sure, back then there was also good strategic games but most of the graphics let much to be desired.

The originality and that the graphics were heavily pixelated, but no one gave a shit.

Cartridges were so simple. You didn't have to worry about scratches, and you could blow on them if there was a problem.
