Anyone know if there was a manufacturing defect in early Blu Ray Discs, particularly PlayStation 3 games, causing the discs to crack in the center, and the cracks would eventually grow to the disc's data, making the disc unreadable?
Just recently, I dusted off one of my old PS3 games, Ratatouille (released 2nd half 2007) to be specific, and when I was done playing it and removed the disc from my PS3, I noticed near the center hole of the disc, there is (what I think might be) a crack, which could grow and kill my disc!
I already had this happen to one of my PS3 games before, Sega Superstars Tennis, released 1st half 2008, yet I eventually got another copy of that game, but now I fear I may eventually have to replace Ratatouille also X( .
I am aware that any disc, be it CD, DVD or otherwise can crack from the center forward (that's not the case for UMDs, with their metal plate centers!), but, since Blu Ray was new at the time, were there such serious manufacturing defects? I have heard of Blu Ray Discs rotting in the disc formats earlier days, so it may be flawed manufacturing...
