Most people say that movie based games are rubbish. I agree.
They seem to be nothing more than money making schemes.

However, there are some great classics hidden amongst them.
What are your favourites and why?

Mine is Jurassic Park for the NES.
It handled well, there were lots of different dinosaurs and the levels were nicely varied although keeping a similar theme.
The other versions of JP that I tried just didn't have the appeal of this one.

Terminator 2: The Arcade Game (arcade)... great shooter.

Jurassic Park: The Lost World (arcade)... another fun shooter.

Total Recall (NES)... a supurb platformer... whoops... maybe not.

GoldenEye for the N64, one of the best console FPS ever made.

My favorite too is Jurassic Park for NES. Can't remember anything else at the moment....

The worst games were Jungle Book for NES and Xena: Warrior Princess for GameBoyColor

There are some great "movie-based" games out there...

My favourite "movie-based game" when I was a child was
True Lies for the MegaDrive (or Genesis if you're from the US).

I also like Alien Resurrection for the PS1 very much, though
I don't think it fits the term "retro" here.

There are quite a lot games based on movies that are
actually good, like Ghost in the Shell for example or Super
                Empire strikes Back
                .

But there's also a lot of crap out there

Another I have remembered was Terminator 2 for the NES.
                  Absolutley infallable.

The only good movie based game I played is Aladdin for the Genesis. Games like Bebe's Kids should have never been made.

Some of them are good. The best one I ever played was "Hook" for the 8-Bit NES. That game was just awesome.

The arcade version of "Hook" was OK, but I didn't like the one they made for the 16 bit systems. It was too hard :(

I totally agree with you except for Episode 1, that one didn't cut it for me. I liked Jedi Power Battles but I'm not sure if that counts as a movie based game. A couple others I know of are:

Goldeneye on N64 (Just cause it's worth mentioning AGAIN)
                              The Warriors (Xbox)

Aladdin for the Genesis and Super Nintendo were both very good games. The two versions were very different, though. The Super Nintendo one was pretty tough.
