I grew up way out in the sticks. However, I did run with a local pack of neighborhood kids. Every weekend in the fall mom would drop me off to play football or either I'd stay over at one of my friend's houses in the neighborhood. We'd have a blast playing hide and go seek, wrestling in the yard, staying up all night watching Skinamax, or taking a midnight stroll around the block being chased by ghosts. I'm still friends with all of them. One even became my brother-in-law. Are you sure you want to delete this post? Yes | No

I swear back when we were kids, we had the best times a kid could ever have. Playing video games, watching cartoons/Snick, pretending to be our favorite superheroes, etc. But truth of the matter is that eventually we all had to go our separate ways, turns out most of their parents were assholes and eventually the kids followed in their footsteps.
The other set were up the block, they were my other friends from school. Long story short one of them ended up in rehab and the other two moved away.
...I know there were some unpleasant memories associated with the neighborhood kids. And that towards the end, we really left on a bad note. But I'll always remember the good times we had growing up and I know somewhere deep inside of them, they're doing the same thing. Because those were some of the best times of our lives.
I know exactly what you mean. Middle school especially really changes kids. I knew a lot of kids that were really nice that turned into total assholes later on. I think a lot of it has to do with them getting around the wrong group of kids. I saw kids lives get destroyed because they got around the wrong crowd. The more innocent kids tend to fall prey the worst as they tend to be more easily influenced. I got a lot of harassment from the neighborhood kids later on because I wouldn't follow them. I knew the path they were going down and I didn't want to go there. So many of them are in jail to this day and even couple of them are dead. Are you sure you want to delete this post? Yes | No

Sorry to hear that, but I guess it happens and that what you did was probably for the better.
It's funny the paths life takes you, sometimes it's for the better, sometimes it's for the worse, but in the end, you'll always have those seemingly endless summers and the memories you shared. And I guess if you hold on to those, you never really lose your friends and you can always look back on the good times you had.Are you sure you want to delete this post? Yes | No

Yeah, back in the early to mid 90s as a kid I was able to play outside with a bunch of kids but many people started moving away because it was an apartment complex. I would hang out with kids my age or even those that were older because everyone knew each other and accepted one another. We would watch movies together or go to each other's house to play video games. There was always so much to do in those days but once I hit 12 in 1998 it's as if I forgot how to have fun. I've lived in a few different places but only stayed long enough in one to make good friends.
In Brooklyn we lived in an apartment building, there were two other identical buildings on that block. All of us from those buildings used to play games like Steal the Bacon, Tag, Freeze Tag, Red Light Green Light and more in front of the buildings. We would even run though the basement and come out around the corner, it was really fun. Now that neighborhood is so gentrified with rich yuppies that have moved in and paid stupid money to live there; they have heart attacks when kids play and gather in the front. I wish they would go live in the Hamptons or stay in Manhattan, but no they want to come and fuck up Brooklyn. O.k. that's the end of that rant lol. Some still live there, some have moved away, but I don't have contact with anyone from that time.
Later we moved to a house in Cleveland Ohio. I made friends who lived a few blocks away. Their house was great because I could stay out late and get away with stuff that I couldn't at home. We had a great time; I still keep in contact with them today. They still live in the same house, with their mama lol, its o.k., Cleveland economy sucks.
After Cleveland, we didn't stay in one place long enough for me to make good friends, just a lot of acquaintances. Are you sure you want to delete this post? Yes | No
