Anyone who has played Animal Crossing knows that you can catch bugs and insects in it. The two rarest bugs in the game, and the most valuable, are the Tarantula and the Scorpion. However, trying to catch them is very risky. Because the Tarantula and the Scorpion will both bite/sting you once you take your net out and try to catch it.

A popular myth is that once your are bitten or stung, the venom leaves an effect on your character. Your character will have a lot more trouble catching bugs and fish, will have a lesser chance of becoming friends with your neighbors, and will be charged more money from Tom Nook on items at his shop.

This has been called the "Brain Damage" effect.

However, last night, I tried to catch a Tarantula in "Animal Crossing: City Folk" and it bit me. I discovered that none of the "Brain Damage" effects were afflicting my character.

Now who knows: maybe the effect doesn't effect everyone bitten or stung. Maybe I wasn't effected because my character wears a four leave clover in it's hair, which, according to Nintendo, will bring good luck to to your character.

So has anyone else encountered this problem? Because I think I disproved it.

Judging by this thread the effects to the brain might be more severe than we thought! :P

Your character should be in Animal Planet.

After reading about finding the tarantula and scorpion, the only possible effect (besides getting a swollen face) I've discovered is the chance of the other townspeople treating you differently. Wear a helmet and it's all for not though.
