Gosh, the old DOS games. Despite their graphics, those games were great, because they were really fun to play. Especially the Oregon Trail games. As far as I know, there are five of those game total. When I was in elementary school, we would have computer lab, and we would play educational DOS games that taught us how to spell, and things like that. One time in 2nd Grade, we had a big theme going where we studied dinosaurs. During that time, we went to computer lab, and we got a new game called "Fossil Hunters." In other words, we got it at the perfect time. I used to play The Oregon Trail all the time. It's one of my all-time favorite games! Eventually, I got Oregon Trail 2, and played it at my dad's work, because it was Take Your Child to Work Day. I played the DOS version, AND I BEAT IT! What makes it such a big deal is the Oregon Trail game is one of those games that normally no one can beat. If I could only have one game for the rest of my life, it'd be The Oregon Trail. Did you know that the very first Duke Nukem game was an old DOS game? What old DOS games did you enjoy playing?

I've been considering buying an old Intel 386 or 486 computer with Dos and Windows 3.1 just for the sole purpose of playing all those old games. I know DosBox exists and I use it...but the games don't always run that good.

We had a game in Middle School called Freedom! You were basically a slave trying to make it north without being caught. Am I the only one that played this game?

Hm. Oregon Trail. Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego. Monster Bash (I think that was the name). Hugo 3: Jungle of Doom (that game was hard for me). Wolfenstein 3D. Word Munchers. Number Munchers.

We never got a computer until 1998, which was pretty far past the DOS era, but we played a lot of great old games on my grandma's Macintosh. Oregon Trail, Wolfenstein 3D and Treasure Math Quest are the only ones I think most people here would know, otherwise it was a bunch of obscure kid's games like Foo Castle, Scooter's Magic Castle, and Cuckoo Zoo.

I used to play a lot of DOS games when I was a kid, but one game I remember specifically is Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure. That's a game I haven't played in years, and looking back at it, it's a rather underrated platformer from the early 90s. I guess the game probably would have recieved some recognition if it was on SNES or Genesis.

Another game that I used to play all the time is Blake Stone. Looking back at that game, it's very simular to Wolfenstein, except in Blake Stone, you fight aliens instead of Nazis.

Well there are a ton and a half DOS games that I loved first the entire Leasure suit Larry series. Yes I was a kid then but still played it. Freddy Pharkas Frontier Pharmacist was also a great game. The Entire Monkey Island Series. (If you couldnt tell I loved the games that Sierra made) Kings Quest and Day of the Tentacle, Sam and max the original. I had countless hours of great gaming when I was a kid. I played as much pc games as i did Nintendo games.

So many DOS games I love. I even collect them! Does anyone remember SkyRoads (and the later SkyRoads Xmas Special)? Very hard game, but an awesome soundtrack! I even found the original box for Holiday Lemmings today at a thrift store, but the box was empty! :P

well, there was earthworm jim 2 for the pc. but it required the soundblaster audio plugin to hear the sound effects. i tried getting it to run on my xp laptop with dosbox, but to no avail... well, at least i could still listen to the cd quality music

you realize that you can always use virtualbox or vmware or something and run DOS inside it?

that being said, I remember outnumbered, treasure mountain (regular and snowstorm), and OF COURSE Oregon Trail. :D

I think Number Munchers was also DOS, not sure. and wasn't there some crappy Mario game for DOS? I vaguely remember playing that in class as well :?

Yup, Number Munchers was DOS and the game you are thinking of was "Mario is Missing"

Some favorites for me were the LucasArts games, namely Maniac Mansion, Zak McKracken and The Alien Mindbenders and my personal favorites -- The Secret of Monkey Island (1 and 2).
