Before you buy Mortal Kombat 9, know that before you can even play LIVE you have to pay an extra 800 microsoft points.

They do it because of the whole trade in thing with Game Stop.

What they should do is this.

Brand new purchased games have some sort of code to enter which allows brand new purchasers to get online for 400 points.

And that code is unique and can only be used once.

So that if somebody else buys it later at a cheaper trade in price they will not have that unique code, meaning they'd have to pay 800 points.

Now, both brand new buyers and used buyers pay 800 across the board.

We're already paying over 65 dollars for it.

Now we have to pay 800 points extra just to play what we're buying it for.

Then in the future they'll charge more for extra content.

I'm calling bullshit. I don't plan on getting the game, but thats not how you treat your fanbase.

I don't know. It seems unfair that you have to pay to play online.

Yeah, I don't play online anyway. I suck at fighting games. Don't need some random chump, halfway around the world reminding me of that.

Hold on.. my bad. I trusted my friend who just threw the game in without looking at the manual. Apparently there IS a code for buyers that he missed. He called me and told me all the details of him paying. I'll have to call him back and call him a goof. Sorry for the post and the alarm. For the Moderator, I understand if you delete this thread. Again, sorry about the misinformation.

haha, its good. Its just showing how they're cracking down on trade in games. So, its still relevant.

I agree. You are better off buying the game online (via Xbox) than going to purchase it for $65 then turn around and pay for 800 points for content.

Just another way for a business to get more money. Such a shame.

Developers don't see a penny from used game sales so it's understandable why this do this, it sucks but it is what it is. People need to realize games aren't cheap to make, especially this generation.

I got it for PS3 and inside the game case, it gives you a code so you don't have to pay. But if you ever sell the game, whoever buys it will have to pay to play online.

Exactly. Not shitty for you. But shitty for the next person.

I hate this Online Pass crap. At least EA had the courtesy to make an exception for their Online Pass policy on one of their more recent games, due to the developers of that particular game NOT wanting it! Can't remember which game, though.
Was it Crysis 2 or something?

Don't buy it used. Or don't play online. Online sucks anyway.

First of all, they should lower the actual price of games. They've actually went up, a lot of them are 69.99 now. I think every new game should be 49.99 and there should be no fee to pay any game online if it's on a console at least.

What games are 69.99 that aren't collectors editions? Games really only went up 10 bucks since back in the days of the nes, i remember paying 50 bucks for regular nintendo games. The technology is better now so it makes sense to cost more.

And the thing people don't realize is there's so much money to be made in the used games business. The game developers make money off each games once, while game stores that deal in used games offer nothing for trade in then sell the games for near new price.

Example: i was at gamestop today and they had a used mortal kombat (the one that just came out), i guess someone sold it back because they didnt like it, but the used one was 54.99. insane right?

Does that mean developers should get a part of that pie as well? Where does it stop?

I played the Story mode, some of the Ladder mode, and the Test Your Luck mode. If you never got online with this game it would still be fun for fans. And recently I read in another forum (the xbox community) that they're already planning on DLC content. That just means more money. They had this in plans before they released the game. Personally I may not be buying the new DLC this fast around after already paying 65 dollars for the game plus tax.

Sick of high prices for everything from movies, to gas, to video games. Gonna start controlling and budgeting more.
