Nobody in the video game industry really has originality anymore. If you buy Microsoft or Sony's systems...you are going to get a lot of first and third person shooters, sports games, and RPGs. If you buy Nintendo's systems, you are going to get lots of 3D platformers, multiplayer party type games, and of course the next Mario, Zelda, and Metroid. This is how it will most likely be with the next generation of systems as well.

While I do think they should go back to some of their older, less-used franchises, (Star Fox, F-Zero, Pikmin) I also think they still get some good ideas. For example.. Donkey Kong Country Returns: A great revival of the SNES classic. Thought it's not quite as good as the original, and you can tell Rare had no involvement, it's a wonderful game, and I'm really happy to see an other console DK platformer for the first time in about five years. I also think the 3DS looks promising, and Super Mario Galaxy and it's sequel are the best Mario games yet. So I'd say for the most part, Nintendo is still as great, and original as they always were, but I do wish they'd stop making so much Mario spin-offs, start making more Star Fox, Pikmin, and F-Zero games, and try to get Rare back.

I actually don't mind new games in popular series like Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil, Street Fighter, etc. but they have to be spaced out well. Nintendo has definitely overdone it with Mario. I like SMG 1, 2, NSMB Wii and Mario Kart, but most of the other stuff just wasn't needed.

These games aren't being released very frequently which is a good thing. Still, I can find somewhat of a lack of originality in a few of them since the plot(s) always seem similar to a certain degree.

 Nintendo is making a new character franchise?, Why would they do that?, For just introducing a New Character?, Would that Rip-Off some of the SEGA characters like Ristar, Sonic, Dynamite Headdy, Vectorman, Any SEGA character franchise that Nintendo will Rip-Off the SEGA characters, I think they should make it one of their OWN new Character franchise without Ripping-Off some other game Company's video game characters?, I actually know that SEGA just Ripped-Off Mario (That's because Mario And Sonic have the same popularity but different.) I wouldn't do that if i own a Video Game Company.

Well the Mario games for sure are always the same thing plotwise, outside of the odd game like the North American verison of SMB 2 and Super Mario Sunshine. I don't have a huge problem with the lack of originality storywise in the Mario platformers because they usually have fresh, new ideas in the gameplay. Hopefully they can continue to surprise on that front for years to come because the stories will more than likely never change too much from 'Bowser steals Peach, Mario saves her' scenarios.

When it comes to its franchises, I think this is true. Nintendo has been relying too much on Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, and other games.
On the other hand, Nintendo has made a lot of progress on consoloes in the past few years (The DS, the Wii and now the 3DS).
I think Nintendo still has some original ideas, because companies like Sony and Microsoft are already making use of the very same ideas (Playstation Move and Kinect).
But I feel a little betrayed, because I'm not the kind of player who likes to swing his controller like a mad man or blow into my handheld mic to play a game. I just like to smash buttons!
Shao Kahn: You pathetic fools, I've come for your souls!

              Raiden: I don't think so.

I wouldn't just say Nintendo is losing their originality but gaming as an industry is, and it's all thanks to the corporate world. When a game is in production the bottom line or the end result comes down to money. And sense this is the case, many gaming companies are afraid to try something new and instead they just rehash the popular brand games over and over again. I mean really, you can see that only a handful of games are being recycled and re-sold to consumers over and over.
