Do you think dedicated handheld games consoles, like the 3DS and NGP, still have a future despite the smartphone/tablet outbreak?
I personally hope that dedicated handheld games consoles will still have a future!
I know you can get a game like Tetris, Mortal Kombat or Monopoly for your smartphone for a much cheaper price than you can get those 3 said games for your DS, but even so, I personally would rather go the DS way!
Smartphones and Tablets are great devices, don't get me wrong (yes, I did rant about my iPhone elsewhere on these forums, but those problems got fixed eventually and I'd rather put the problems I had before behind us, especially since I have benefitted so much from that iPhone of mine and it's indeed a great device!), but I'd rather have physical joypad buttons than just a touch screen as my only controls. I love the touch screen functionality on the DS, yet it is also great that normal physical buttons are there, too! You don't get that with an iPhone!
Also, one big factor is how games are delivered: I am not too keen on downloads; I would buy games through downloads, but I feel that physical media, like discs, cartridges and cards are INFINITELY better! That way, you can buy games while on holiday (yes, I know of the DSi/3DS's region locks, which sucks!), and you can play your games instantly after buying, rather than having to wait for the download to complete.
I personally hope that in the future, Smartphones and dedicated handheld games consoles continue to co-exist, no matter what.
Yes, I am aware pf physical buttons on Sony Erricson's Xperia Play smartphone. Are you sure you want to delete this post? Yes | No
