As many of us knew the success story that is Street Fighter II as "The Game that got several folks back in the Arcades". Despite being a sequel it was considered an exciting start of something great to behold. However instead of sequels, Capcom remade SFII more than once. It was kind of cool at first I mean you can play as Balrog, Vega, Sagat and M. Bison in the Championship Edition? That was an intresting change of pace however then Capcom went a little too crazy on that. I mean Hyper Fighting? Tournament Edition? Sheesh its still the same game despite some spruce-ups. The closest thing we got to a sequel was Super Street Fighter II which introduced Cammy, T. Hawk, Fei Long and Deejay in the original and Akuma in its Turbo Edition.

But still was it too much to ask for a Street Fighter III back then? They could've added in more Final Fight and Saturday Night Slam Masters cast into SF sequels if they couldn't come up with any more originals. There was the original Street Fighter Alpha but that was something that Capcom pretty much threw out as "Non-Cannon". The Alpha series didn't grow until later on in the 90's with its sequels. And when SFII itself finally got a sequel in 1998 namely Street Fighter III. (Which Capcom also went back on their remaking bit again but not as much this time.)

The thing is what would've it been like if Capcom just simply gave us Street Fighter III a lot sooner than remaking SFII plenty of times? Granted some might defend Capcom's idea of making new versions of SFII due to how they fixed up certain gameplay errors on the original but sequels could've done that just fine. I believe it might've helped because the remakes made the SF series look a little too "one trick pony" for gamers in the mid-90's and this would've substantially proved otherwise. And this might've aided the Street Fighter storyline as well. Think storyline is deemed too minor for the genre? Don't be so sure I mean you can be surprised on how many people are still rather sore on how Capcom has made the SF plotline be over the years. Granted when it comes to game genres, storyline is not as renowned as it is in RPG's but its value is not as non-existant as some would try to tell you otherwise. (After all the artwork isn't the only thing praised in Udon's handiwork in their Fighting game-based comics.) Another words to make a long story short Fighting games are known to be good character studies, in which its one of the reasons why game series' such as King of Fighters get praised as well.

Not quite sure how to think of how the past could've been different? Thought Capcom had the right idea back then? Then here is a new idea for Capcom for the SF series, start it all over again as one big remake of the SF storyline. Sounds strange? Perhaps but making one big retcon of the storyline could be a rather fresh start for the series. And what about gameplay you ask? Simple this idea would have several underused characters that would be a whole new experience for casuals and something extra for veterans alike. They could also go for a bit of a Soul Calibur III-esque story mode in which you can travel about and pick how rate of the storyline shall go. You can go through the Story mode, character development and/or intresting twists for story and several different opponents to challenge in gameplay. And of course different little mini-games just for fun. Don't think Capcom can do it well? Don't be so sure despite on how screwy their efforts on SF's storyline can be. The storylines for Darkstalkers and Rival Schools pretty much went just fine. (In which the latter is a part of the SF storyline.)

Granted this might end up giving some SF characters some rather strange differences in order to fit in with the much lesser used characters but it can be possible to work with. I'm not quite sure how could they release such a thing though. (And thats whether they make a new series or remake the whole SF series in one game.) They could give its own standalone release or they might even use it as a special gift to download on the Nintendo Revolution. But still that is my idea here what do you think?

Phew! ok, i got most of it.
I hear your complaint. I use to complaint the same way about the whole Street Fighter Legacy.
However, I understood why they made it that way, for the most part. TO MAKE MONEY! j/k
Well after Champion Edition came out, grey markets made enhancements to the champion edition. The famous edition was the rainbow edition. It allowed the speed of the characters to be increased, unlimited projectiles, etc. Capcom sued them and released Hyper Fighting or Turbo to resolve this issue.
I have a treat for anyone who wants to see all the Street Figther Arcade specs, info, trivia and pictures of the Arcades!
