As much as I hate to say it, (because after several repeated viewings, the film actually grew on me like a fungus.....like Pulp Fiction).
If I had to submit a serious contender for most boring film of all time, it would have to be David Lynch's supreme master work of fubars....his 1984 screen adaptation of Frank Herbert's critically acclaimed, science-fiction epic "DUNE".
The only reason I like it now is because after numerous self-induced, repeated viewings....(I guess I kept forcing myself to watch it because I kept thinking I missed something as I couldn't understand how a film that cost so much to make could possibly be so bad) I can finally appreciate the film for it's "so bad it's good" cult classic characteristics.
The main reason I list it here even though I like it now is because there was a time when I ABSOLUTELY HATED IT and am quite certain that I have yet to see anything as boring since....(no, not even The Phantom Menace or any of the other SW prequels).
David Lynch has succeeded where other film directors have failed, he has made the ABSOLUTE WORST SCREEN ADAPTATION OF A BEST SELLING NOVEL....EVER.
No, not even the worst screen adaptation of a Stephen King novel comes anywhere even remotely close to the 3+ hour bucket of shit that is 1984's DUNE.
Mr. Lynch, I tip my hat to you Sir; you've definitely made a film fully-worthy of the Alan Smithee directing credit.
