Amazing how I was just thinking the same thing myself about this thread!
Like many have already mentioned before, the 80's was a musical decade the likes of which can only be equalled by the 60's. And every music genre was represented - even operatic and theatrical style musicals!
I got some razzing two years ago when I first posted this, but here is an example of just how amazing the 80's music scene really was:
When "CHESS: The Musical" was under developement in the early 80's, a concept album of songs was produced by Tim Rice and former composers from the group ABBA. One song from the album made an impact with radio listeners and became a world-wide hit when it was released as a single.
Now I usually don't link to "lyric" videos, but this youtube upload is awesome in sound quality, and truthfully, the writing is just as unique as the musical score. Add to that, the "rap" narration by Murray Head, and his put-down of typical tourist thinking when it comes to cities in Southeast Asia. The dude is funny, I know I'm not the only Retro Junker that likes this song.
Imho, this is one of the standout songs of the mid-eighties!
