    My Accident

I remember the time when I had a bad accident. Most people say they have had pains before but this pain was the worst I remember. I will never forget because it was the night that a president was to be elected. Normally I would not have been out on a night like that but I just received a new scooter and I was eager to ride it. I started riding it outside as it was not too dark yet. Everything seemed okay but I would have never guessed that something would go terribly wrong. I hit a crack in the alley back where I was riding and I was sent flying off the scooter and hard onto the ground. I didn’t know if anything was broken but I had a feeling that something wasn’t right. I stumbled back home to see my mother and explain what happened to me.

It wasn’t until the next day that I called to see a doctor. The doctor said he would have to do an X-ray. I knew now that my knee was scraped pretty badly but that wasn’t what I was worried about. I could barely move my left hand which was unfortunate since I was left handed. I waited nervously as the results of the X-ray came back. The doctor said I had broken some bones in two of the fingers on my left hand. I was not happy about it at all. The doctor said they would heal though and to make a long story short I ended up in a cast. I didn’t have my whole hand broken but it was decided it would better that way.

When compared to an accident I had as a child it seemed that this particular one was life changing. As a child I enjoyed riding my scooter around the block where I used to live. It was sort of customary to ride down the big hills and pick up a lot of speed. I always had fun doing that until one time when I accidently fell off and hurt my leg. While I thought it was broken it turned out to be just bruised slightly.

As I thought about both incidents I realized that both of them involved me on a scooter. You could say that I don’t have a whole lot of luck with scooters and from the looks of it that seems likely. I say the more recent accident was life changing because I realized where as the first time I was a kid and having a fun time riding down the hills, the second time I was older and I was trying to recapture my youth in a way. I was an older man and I was trying to act like a kid again, but I realized that rather than trying to be a kid once again, I should have just tried to be who I was now and not what I used to be.

While I did not get seriously hurt the first time and I did get badly hurt the second time I realized that both experiences held some significant meanings. The first mainly being that when I was kid and I rode down the hill and hurt myself I felt that it was symbolic of me as a child wanting and liking to take risks. I enjoyed gliding down hills and going fast and the small sense of danger that I felt when I was as some would call it living on the edge.

I was about fourteen at the time of my first accident and I was eighteen when my more deadly accident happened. I felt that the second time around my accident symbolized that I was still trying to take risks and live on the edge. After that accident occurred I realized that I was getting older and it seemed like I now needed to take fewer risks and play it safe.

I was in an accident myself when I was younger. I was only 11 years old and I was in a serious car accident that almost took my life and that happened on August 16th, 2001. I was the passenger and I was riding along with my dad's ex-girlfriend. My dad's ex-girlfriend survived the accident and so did I obviously but I ended up with both of my legs broken, one broken thumb, and my two front teeth were cracked so they now have filling in them. My jaw has been popping out and it tends to make popping noises when I open it but it doesn't hurt anymore and that was from the car accident too.

Both your legs? Has your walking been impaired?

hot damn, and I always considered myself lucky that I had to have toenail surgery that time I rode my bike with open toe sandals...

in any case, I smell yet ANOTHER bug this site has. I'm linking this thread to the appropriate place.

I can still walk but once in awhile they do tend to hurt a little but that's usually when the weather is kind of bad and that seems to cause pain in my legs for some reason.
