I think SNES is the best, followed by the NES in a close second.

I choose N64. I don't know, it felt like the mixed point of everything.

Aww.. the Neo-Geo should get a lil' love up there.

Since it's not, I'd say pound for pound... eh...

          PS1.

          1. Wide selection of games. All genres available. Quality.

          2. It marked the biggest advancement of gaming EVER. It revolutionized the CD-ROM gaming market. (3DO, Phillips CD-i, Sega CD, etc.. decent, but not as important as the PlayStation.) The PS1 was the foundation for things to come.

          3. It brought forth an entire generation of "gamers" and all-around video game fanatics. Mainstreaming the gaming subculture. Maturing previously childish games, making them "serious" and dramatically intense. Little reliance on platformers, though several existed.

          4. Nintendo and Sega had been battling for YEARS with one another. Sony's first attempt at a console was a resounding success. Playstation's dagger went straight into Nintendo's heart. Later on, Sega's wild punch came in the form of the Dreamcast...but eventually succumbed to Sony's iron grip on the market.

          ---

I feel the PS1 did more to change gaming history than any other system. Graphics aren't always the barometer to which systems are measured. All systems prior to the PS1 played their part IN the history of gaming, but a definite veil was lifted when Sony's PlayStation hit the market. On that day, gaming officially "grew up."

Technically and "promotionally" it sure isn't the best as in
"the console the most people would have fun with", but to
me, the underrated SEGA Saturn is currently the best of
            them all!

You just have to expand your games collection with imports,
since there are so many great games that never saw the
light of day here in Europe or in the US.

Games like Gungriffon 2, Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter
or all those beautiful RPGs, like Wachenröder or the complete
Shining Force III-Saga make the Saturn my beloved, yet mis-
understood little piece of gaming history

Doh, I was going to vote for NES, but I voted for N64. I like the NES console because it was a classic. It had many titles to choose from. Almost everyone owned a NES.

Aw. I missed the poll. :?

Well, I pick Xbox 360 because it currently has more memory the other systems. (I think.) Correct me if I'm wrong.

I love the SNES, probably because 1) don't have to worry about no stupid memory card b.s., 2) because lots of originals are on there (MMX, Mortal Kombat, Final Fantasy or was that NES?). I dunno I just love it. I also like PS2/XBox and GB Pocket/GBA SP. PFfffft everything's good :) As long as it is fun to me then I will enjoy it.

SNES is great. But I still enjoy NES. So many memories and classics that SNES would not have without NES. Sometimes, the game cartriage and box looked cool, even though the game sucked. :)

i'd have to say NES is the greatest system ever. i mean, don't get me wrong.. SNES is pretty sweet.. and i will always have a sweet spot for atari and all of the other oldies like intellivision and sega masters.. and so on and so fourth .. i even own an xbox. .. but NES has a certain 'magic' to it..different from any other game console.. its like a wholesome magic.. a 'sit at home when i was seven on a rainy day with my bestfriend playing super mario bros all day' magic.

Sega Mega Drive... which is Genesis to the Americans. Too many good memories. World of Illusion, Sonic 1 and 2, Animaniacs...

                              Followed by N64, then NES.

I vote for NES. Its introduction marks such a huge milestone in home entertainment history...not to mention some of my fondest childhood memories are from that time period. I can remember all the Friday night sleep-overs with my friends, playing Excitebike, SuperMB, Metroid, RC Pro-AM, MT's Punch-out and Legend of Zelda. Good times.

SNES, with the PS1 almost equal. I chose SNES only because of the SNES's nostalgic value :D

Both are such fantastic systems. Where the PS1 revolutionised gaming (as has already been rightly mentioned), the SNES built upon currently existing technology and methodoligy and made gaming perfect.

Both were the best of their respective Bit classes. The PS1 just blew the competition away, keeping an iron grip on the industry for the longest time any console has ever done (and maybe ever will with the current practice of releasing a new console in ever decreasing increments of time). The SNES came on late to take the crown and only gave it up on the PS1's release (well thats what i did anyway, i only stopped playing SNES when we got the PS1 :D).

They both had the largest collection of game titles and the widest array of genre's than any of their respective console's. None could even come close (although the Saga Magadrive/Genesis was always closer than most).

And finally, they were both only deposed as the number one console when the next generation of consoles arrived. The SNES bowed out gracefully when the PS1 arrived, it's makers simply stopping production and distribution of games shortly after to concetrate on their own new console (NOT a 32-bit machine you'll notice...), and the PS1 following a similar trend when they decided that the next generation was just around the corner.

Phew, sorry for going on, but it just started flowing :)
So i would have chosen both, but couldn't :D
