One of mine too. I saw it when it first came out. I identified immediately with Donnie's character after he said he had emotional problems. And got excited that he may have found someone who did also. Its also got a hell of a cast to it. I bought the Director's Cut when it was released. It just made the movie that much better.

            *spoiler!!!

No not really, Frank was merely concerned with preserving his own existance.

Watch the Director's cut, Frank is the "manipulated dead" who is trying to save himself from oblivion in the tangent universe by contacting a "living receiver."

This is why he showed Donnie the evil all around him (i.e. Patrick Swayze). Frank wanted Donnie to kill himself to prevent that future from occuring.

Ofcourse, Donnie was more concerned about the fate of Gretchen

Sounds like a interesting film. I may buy this if I can't borrow it from somebody.

It's totally worth it if you can find a good deal on it. I got my copy of the movie like four or five years ago at Target for like $10. And it was the Special Edition Director's Cut too which in my opinion is a better movie than the original version which I saw first. DD is one of the most unique and thought provoking movies I've ever seen.

Donnie: "You are such a fuck-ass!"
Elizabeth: "Did you just call me a fuck-ass?! You can go suck a fuck!"
Donnie: "Oh, please, tell me Elizabeth, how exactly does one suck a fuck?!"
                  Samantha: "What's a fuck-ass?"

"Sometimes I doubt your commitment to Sparkle Motion!"

It was recommended to me (2005-ish) and I watched it 7 times in the first month. Even bought the Donnie Darko book, which has the script and interview with the writer/director.

My brother bought me the deluxe blu ray and it looks great, but I might have to wait a few years to watch it again.
