When people know a certain rock band fondly, they think of the years when that certain band had had its most notable members (called the peak years of the group). However those incarnations of the groups weren't known by everyone.

    For example:
The Beatles: John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr
The Rolling Stones: Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Brian Jones, Mick Taylor (replaced Jones in 1969, quit in late 1974), Ronnie Wood (replaced Taylor in early 1976), Bill Wyman (left in early 1993) and Charlie Watts (and Ian Stewart)
The Who: Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend, John Entwistle and Keith Moon (keyboardist John "Rabbit" Bundrick nearly joined the original lineup in 1978; this was marred not only by Rabbit's freak accident but also, more devastatingly, by Moon's death)
Led Zeppelin: Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and John Bonham
Genesis: Peter Gabriel, Mike Rutherford, Steve Hackett, Phil Collins and Tony Banks
Supertramp: Rick Davies, Roger Hodgson, Dougie Thomson, Bob Siebenberg and John Helliwell
Lynyrd Skynyrd: Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines, Gary Rossington, Allen Collins, Ed King, Leon Wilkeson, Bob Burns, Artimus Pyle (replaced Burns after 1975), and Billy Powell
Saga: Michael Sadler, Ian Crichton, Jim Crichton, Jim Gilmour and Steve Negus
The Band: Robbie Robertson, Rick Danko, Levon Helm, Richard Manuel and Garth Hudson
The Cure: Robert Smith, Porl Thompson (dismissed from original Easy Cure lineup in mid-1978; would return in mid-1984 on guitar, sax and keys; would leave again from 1993-2005), Perry Bamonte (replaced O'Donnell on keys in 1990 and Thompson on guitar in 1993), Mick Dempsey (bass from 1978-79), Simon Gallup (replaced Dempsey in late 1979, left 1982; rejoined late 1984 to replace Phil Thornalley), Phil Thornalley (replaced Gallup in 1982), Lol Tolhurst (on drums to 1982; keyboards 1982-88), Andy Anderson (drums 1983-84), Boris Williams (replaced Anderson in 1984), Jason Cooper (replaced Williams in 1994), Matthieu Hartley (keys from 1979-80) and Roger O'Donnell (keys from 1988-90 and 1995-2003)
Siouxsie & the Banshees: Siouxsie Sioux, Steve Severin and Budgie (the guitarist slot always rotated in this band; Robert Smith, John McGeoch and John Carruthers were most notable)

Does it count if a band had the same members for their entire career, but went through a period of "peak years?" Because I was going to suggest Queen with their (only) four members through their history (Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor, John Deacon) with their peak probably being the mid 70s, when "A NIght at the Opera" came out.
All of this Political Correctness junk is going to turn me into a modern day Archie Bunker before I turn 30.

Exactly what I thought ... for example, with the Rolling Stones they had so many lineups and peak years, it's hard to choose just one.

The same lineup but with Alan White replacing Bill Bruford on drums is refered to as the Classic Yes lineup as this is the lineup that toured theartres, arenas and stadiums for most of the 70's.)
