Has anyone else had trouble with ps2 doing damage to game discs?
See, my FF VII got ruined because my friend's ps2 drew some deep lines on the disc and I tried to fix it with correction paste but it didn't help

      Try this:

Spread a little toothpaste (it doesn't matter what kind) on the damaged parts of the disc with a Q-tip. When you're done, wipe it with a paper towel. It usually works for my games. I guess it depends on how bad the damage is.

        OMG Toothpaste!!??
Never heard of that one, but what seems to be the problem is you/your friends' discplayer is maybe overspeeding or pushing the cd in the holder.
I've had that with 2 Drives in my PC. Someone has a problem with their PS/2

P.S. Your Friend should just help you out in some way with the ruined game.
        Good luck

That happened to me when I had the old PS2 where the buzzing sound inside the system tried to scratch my games. Now with the slimmer version, I didn't have any problems after selling the old one.

it doesnt seem to me that it should be a reocurring thing even in the old ps2's cuz mine worked just fine.

however, it does sound like the drive is going out. you should call the support line givin by bookerT420 and ask them if they can fix it for you, but all theyll do is put in a new disc drive. thats the best they can do.

                      Question:
1: was the Ps2 in question standing vertical?
2: are the scratches in almost perfect circles?

                      if yes then read below

I used to work in Game and we had loads of customers complain about their Ps2s and their damaged discs.
What happens is; because the disc sits loose in a draw and is not held in by a spindal, eg ps1, dreamcast etc.. when you stand it upright, the disc slightly wobbles when it spins. this makes the disc hit the laser and cause the scratching. after a course of time this will also break your Ps2's laser.

This problem was fixed with the slimline version, when they brought back the spindle system.

the only advice is if you do not have a slimline model LAY YOUR PS2 HORIZONTALLY.

I've used FF7 on my regular 2002 model PS2, as well as several other games (for PS and PS2), and DVD's.

None of them have been scratched. My games can truck on for hours and hours without a problem, and without scratches.

                        GET THIS

it was standing vertically (and still is :D)

                        no lie

Don't get me wrong... it obviously wont happen to all of them but I worked at game for 2 years and we had endless customers with that problem. I gave them that advice and in most cases, that was the problem.
My flat mate worked for game for 3 years and another guy I worked with was there for 9 years, we know what we are talking about.
