It just hit me, I don't recall anyone here mentioning Rocko's Modern Life. Eps like Leap Frogs, Flu-In-U-Enza, the Good the Bad, and the Wallaby, Love Spanked (if I'm remembering right, that's the ep where Rocko's date wanted to get laid, bad), etc., had sexual themes or jokes to 'em that adults would get. Masturbation jokes...implied rape...geez.

I just remembered one Hey Arnold episode where Arnold helped Chocolate Boy quit his chocolate addiction. It dealt with addiction and withdrawl.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Frollo was evil because he wanted to have sex with Esmerelda. She turned him down and started locking up and killed innocent people because he still wanted to have sex. Caught Esmerelda and put here on a stake saying you can have your life, if you have sex with me. I never got the fact that it was about sex. Anytime Yakko says "Goodnight Everybody" means that was an adult thing. One time Dr. Scratchensniff asked them if they wanted to see his bust. There was an episode in TailSpin that dealt with terrorism, in the credits there is the part where Baloo is dressed in drag. He's holding a box as he's dancing and it turns out to be a bomb. X-Men deals with racism. There was an episode of the 90s Spider-man where a girl helps Spider-man because Doc Ock ends up controlling him. In the end Spider-man tells and shows here that he's Peter Parker. The last line is that she will never tell anyone. Then Spider-man goes out the window to reveal where she is currently living: a hospital for terminally ill children.

Id say: Rocko's Modern Life and All Dogs go to Heaven.
90's shows and movies are awesome

Jem actually had some messed up relationships going on in it. Like the whole Jem/Jerrica/Rio love triangle. Rio and Jerrica are a couple, but Rio ends up falling for Jem as well, and since he's unaware that Jem and Jerrica are the same person, he indirectly "cheats" on Jerrica. Throw in Riot creeping on Jem, and her falling for him, and you got yourself a nice little fourway going on there.

Yeah, as a kid, you don't really realize what's going on. As an adult, it's like watching an animated Soap Opera.

Ducktales made use of Greek mythology and classical literature. Scrooge has a rather complicated morality, and the stories were pretty layered. Once I heard my mom talking on the phone telling one of her friends how good it was.

Spongebob had some. It did show Spongebob and Patrick naked quite a bit though... that still shocks me that they can do that.
