I tried to used VHS tapes to get to the commercial thing at the beginning of the tape when I was using my DVD Recorder, it says "This content is copy-protected". :( This might be the problem I have a Pioneer DVD Recorder so I can copy DVD from a VHS tape. I was trying to get through a lot of ads on a VHS prior to the main feature and trailer. If I have any problems, let me know. Thanks!

Commercial VHS tapes are copy-protected - your DVD recorder recognizes such tapes and prevents you from copying their contents.

I dont recall the name of them, but they make devices that you splice in between the vcr and dvd recorder that will cancel out the copy protection. A little searching on ebay and you should be able to find them.

I used to have an old VCR which it was a Sanyo VCR from 1993 but it won't work, so I threw it out. I still have an Emerson Hi-Fi-Stereo VCR.

A "Video Stabilizer". They go for around $20 on Ebay. It's the device you connect between the two units that cancels the copy protection. I hear it works very well...

Yah TV Capture Cards are very cheap now :). I used to use one a lot, but I use my DVD recorder now since the quality is countless times better ;).
Still, it takes ages to rip recorded shows from DVD -_-.

Years ago I went to this place and bought something so I could copy from one vcr to the other without problem. It took a nine volt battery and it worked perfect. I was able to copy from DVD to vhs. I still have it. I don't know if they still make them, but it was worth the price when DVDs first came out. Of course now that I have a computer....... LOL. Anyway I don't know if it would work from a VCR to a DVD or whatever, but years ago it was nice being able to back up some of my movies on VHS and from DVD to VHS, since I hate it when I would wear out certain movies on DVD or VHS.

I got myself one of those SIMA boxes that does the trick too.
