The same reason Samuel L Jackson was in the movie Deep Blue Sea. If you ever saw it he died early on by a shark. The big names help sell the movie.

If you're an actor it's gotta be great to make a decent salary when you only need to memorize 4 minutes worth of screen time.

It should be obvious shouldn't it? Scream was the horror movie that broke all of the rules and spit in the face of the cliches of the horror genre. Drew Berrymore was set up in advertising as the top star of the movie so when she is killed off in the opening scene it was meant to shock you and let you know that this isn't your average horror movie and that it wasn't just going to be like every other slasher movie you have ever seen.

ahh yes, remands of Steven Segal in Executive Decision and Bruce Willis in Charlies angels 2.

            Big names sell.

It truly is because Scream is an unconventional film. It switches things up, which is what made the first two films so great. The third is actually too meta for me however (is it meta to be too meta? or am I just waltzing in circles here?)
              Oh yeah?

Well they did the same thing with Scream 2 when they were hyping up Jade Pinkett to be a major character, only to kill her off before the opening credits, too. That's what made it the unique satire it is.

Its called a swerve. Its done to throw people off and to show that just because the person is a 'big name', they can still die without warning.

Nah, those were reserved for good, innovative movies. Those days are LONG gone...thus why we discuss them here
